Definitely print off docs before departure AND inspect them. We’re 3 weeks out, and just discovered our pre-cruise extension was accidentally cancelled by a cruise agent when a post cruise transfer was added. They are working to resolve it. Lucky we discovered it now.

My idea of “formal wear” for travel these days is a beautifully cut pair of black jersey pants with a sparkly silver top in a non-wrinkle knit fabric. I have a plain black top in the same jersey as the pants if I want a bit of variety - just dress it up with a long statement necklace or fancy earrings. (The jewellery looks great, but is just inexpensive costume stuff that wouldn’t tempt a thief or be a great loss if it did vanish.) A bright, light-weight cashmere wrap can be used for warmth or added interest, and is useful as a scarf for cooler, windy days. They all unroll out of their packing cube ready to put on and go.

The pants double as smart casual daywear, and the black top works well under my go-to blazer for any day time activity. I gave up on heels years ago, so my “evening shoes” are black suede ballet flats with clip on diamanté buckles that can be removed for daywear. The black jersey is machine washable, and the sparkly silver can be hand-washed. Even the cashmere wrap can be hand washed carefully. I can get as many different looks as I could possible need from these few entirely fuss-free items. (If you aren’t a pants-in-the-evening type of lady, a black jersey skirt would work just as well for these looks.)

Really enjoying your videos and have gleaned a lot of important info. However everything seems to be aligned with embarking from your home country. For those who have to fly to the port there are other considerations one being a seperate garment bag isn’t an option.

Have a tip to add (cause boy this gave us a headache). Reach out to your bank and let them know you are traveling internationally. The last thing you want to do is call the bank and be on hold forever because your debit/credit card does not work on vacation.

Big advise: Bring a power strip! You will then have enough outlets :)

My friend had a grocery delivery to home shortly after she got home. She is a master at planning. That didn’t work for my sister in law. She froze her milk. It worked great!

Is there any benefit to getting a credit card for the cruise ship that you are going on?

I bought the medication organizer and got printed labels of my medications and stapled them together and put them in a ziplock with the pill organizer, just in case the info was needed. Easy transport, space saver, and ready for an emergency if need be. 😊

Also we may be visiting vancover, will canada require proof of vacine to embark? I would like input from others here on this. thanks mg

Thanks to everyone for their tips. I keep a "travel to-do" checklist in my Notes app on my phone. Flip the breaker to our well pump (even if a pipe springs a leak we won't have a flood), water heater adjusted, house temp adjusted, water plants, check the refrigerator, and put a travel alert on the credit cards. Safe travels to all!!

One thing on our before we leave list is to turn off the ducted heating or air con so we don’t waste money and power!

When I saw that I had to have a Covid test 2 days before the cruise, I decided to go to the Pharmacy that gave them to "check it out". I found out that only one girl could perform the Covid test, and that she had called in "for the whole weekend" several weeks before. I thought that was a bad idea, so I made a second appointment at a later time , the same day, in case the woman was out sick. I told my Travel Agent, and she thought that this was a great idea, and said she would recomend this for all of her cruisers. When I arrived, she was there, so I took the Covid test and I cancelled the later appointment.
You mentioned tipping the Porters. If you mean the Luggage Handlers at the cruise ship, remember these are NOT porters, they are Longshoremen, and are Union workers who get between 33-66 dollars per hour, and don't deserve tips.

Another way to prevent wrinkles is to use tissue paper. There are great videos about this and it does work. I used tissue paper for my work clothing going to Europe and my clothing came out looking wonderful.

Will countries object to prescription meds being taken on the trip? Do I have to provide proof of prescription, even for non scheduled drugs?

My cousins with their mother who is in her 90’s with breast cancer just went on an Alaskan cruise and they tested before all negative wore masks the entire time and still got COVID and were sick and it ruined their cruise! They spent a lot of money to just get sick! Cruise ships has always been a petrie dish and I have never and will never go on a cruise ship ever!

Seems like a 12 pack of soda and a bottle of wine is going to take up a lot of room and weight in either checked or carry on bag!

If you are driving to a new destination for embarkation (includes airport), do a dry run in daylight to familiarize yourself with where you have to go.

If you drive to the port secure if you need parking reservations check the hotel if stay there they will let you park for free and take you to the port

While out of town, we are able to fill out an online form for the police department to check our home. It is a free service they offer. We stop our mail from being delivered and request to pick up from post office on return home

So helpful, as usual! The only thing I disagree with is leaving your itinerary & contact info with a caregiver if cruising without your kids - this is your chance to disappear off the map!! 😜😎🛳

It isn't a bad idea to commence hydrating about 24 hours prior to departing for the cruise, especially if traveling by air on an overseas flight. It means a couple extra pit stops, but you'll arrive much less 'hung over' or jetlagged if you do.

Last minute....shut off hot water tank, close off main water valve (floods do happen!!), but.....flush all toilets first! Garbage to the curb or in the trash can outside. Windows locked. Mail if delivered to your door. Lights on a timer? At least one!

Okay ...seriously we book our cruise around our pet/house sitter. A year in advance! Sorry, but this is not good advice for a good pet sitter to wait this late. Our sitter moves in and lives in the house while we're gone. Since we are almost an hour drive to get to our airport, we elect to get a Sleep, Park, Fly (Hotel, Parking, Shuttles) package if available in your area. We've done it for years, and just very relaxing... :).
