I recommend you Just stick to painting and unboxing.
Ответитьstays away from twitter but talks the same amount of nonsense the people on twitter do
ОтветитьWow! You really couldn't have missed the mark much more if you tried.
ОтветитьYou genuinely have no idea what your talking about
ОтветитьI think when people say 'hobby tourist' its a sort of elitism for older fans of a series that will have different desires than a newer player. Basically they don't like how a company will favour newer players than their old fanbase - which I suppose from a marketing standpoint makes sense but I can empathise with people who feel betrayed continually by the company. Are they right? I have no idea.
ОтветитьNailed it, GW doesn't even listen to their highest paying customers.
ОтветитьThe gaslighting is starting to burn the house down it seems.
ОтветитьI remember a review of Star Trek Discovery, where the writer very eloquently explained that people disliking the show are blatant racists. Continuity criticism or the writing wasn't the problem, it was racism. The comment section was filled with a few bigots, and a mass of raving yes-sayers. The author by the way freely admitted of having never watched nor having any interest in Star Trek at all, but he welcomed the inclusivity.
Now, this is the kind of tourism we talk about. People showing interest and using moral killer arguments to use your fandom as a platform for their agenda. Point in case the Ac0lyte, produced by and for people not even tangentially interested in StarWars, or the latest discussions around the cust0des.
But I agree, calling a novice a tourist is disrespectful. People are far too quick to draw conclusions instead pf talking to each other sadly.
'Hobby tourist' is a way to push down someone else opinion (even from veterans), so their own opinion have more value than it should be.
'Gatekeeping' is strangely the same process on how modern censorship is done when new ideas must not receive any critics - so it is 'good' as long as it supports someone's personnal agenda (ideological or political).
'Perserving the game' and 'aiming for wider audience' are both intentions with the same value - which is close to worthless for excusing any bad business decisions.
In my opinion, this video lost the purpose of discussion and the push back is mainly because the creator enjoy the hobby by going around the wargaming as a whole - basically he goes through many wargames in the hobby overall, while most of the audience itself focus and are answering about a very specific wargame (most often among the popular ones). But the core of the solution is to talk with the wallet, or better yet, find another wargame in the pool to carry on enjoying the hobby as a whole.
Also, the creator have many times mentionned on his taste, which isn't too fond on any lore heavy settings. So of course a fringe of the audience will feel they aren't being listened to, but I'm also surprised people are so offended by someone who've always said the 'thick book' isn't his thing to begin with in the hobby.
You managed to piss off all the most toxic 40k fans with this video. Its a thumbs up from me.
ОтветитьHobby Tourists are activists that try to change the culture of a thing. And I ironically this dude debunked his own argument in the first moments. “Tourism is a hobby”. Yeah bro and for these hobby tourists activism is their hobby. They don’t actually play or even care about war gaming. They care about their activism and can’t allow anyone else to have anything that they don’t control and are able to force into their agenda.
ОтветитьThis is a rare miss for you. Hobby tourists are narcissists who seek to reshape a hobby into their own image rather than discovering if joining the hobby is right for them.
Ответитьboy o boy are you living in la la land the woke crazys are totally using hobby for the message
and I'm a level head democrat that dos not lean any way. everyone want the politics out left or right
twitter is a cesspool infested by misinformation crooks.
Ответить“It’s just a hobby, it’s a leisure activity” but also “if you don’t like what the corpo is doing, just design your own wargame” smh
Ответить😎👍
ОтветитьWoke Adam
ОтветитьDud e...Im not a fan of this stuff and even I see whats going on
ОтветитьI really appreciate seeing people who have been in hobby spaces for a long time be so vocal about stuff like this. I have spent so much time dipping my toes into different games, and often the thing that makes me turn away is community hostility. So seeing long-standing community members specifically say, “it’s okay to check it out for a bit to see if it’s for you” makes me feel like there is a lot less pressure. Thank you!🎉
Edit: Also LMAO at the comments, he makes a video about how people attack others that they disagree with in hobby spaces… and y’all are just attacking him because you disagree. The irony is amazing
I pretended to be into sports, which is a hobby, in order to seem cool. That was hobby tourism. According to you that is a conspiracy theory though? Hobby tourism is absolutely a thing that some people engage in, and the problem manifests when they want to change it to accommodate them when they didn’t care about it in the first place.
ОтветитьStarted in 1992, Rogue Trader. Yup, def need gatekeepers. Unsubscribed from him, too smug for me.
ОтветитьDamn, this comment section is wild. You’re absolutely right, by the way. Sorry you have to deal with all of these chuds.
ОтветитьWizards of the Coast: Orcs are black people so we can't have them or racial differences in the game
Disney: we have a not so secret Gay Agenda
You: ITS JUST A CONSPIRACY THEORY
The problem is not really the gaming tourists from the customers, it's the hobby tourists hired by games workshop as writers, HR, community managers , executives. The have real power to change the IP and they will bully the company into the ground to mold the IP into what they like, just like what happened to Lucas Arts, Disney, Bioware, Rocksteady Studios , Ubisoft, Blizzard etc etc. Then will cry about it on twitter when half of them need to get fired because the customers ain't buying it.
ОтветитьThe "tourist" is to a hobby what "influencers" are to cultural landmarks. They are there to impose their own existence, exploit a space for their own ego without understanding or respect, and blame those who take issue with their arrogant behaviour as the problem.
Ответитьthe replies are nasty... just let people have fun and try different things out guys.....
ОтветитьSilence, tourist!
ОтветитьI like how you do an impression of your college professor when trying to sounds smart.
ОтветитьOnly listen to sales?? so this man has not once in his entire life seen a corporation throw away money and potential profit for political reasons? Is he trolling or does he actual believe that?
ОтветитьThis is the first time I’ve ever heard of the term “hobby tourist” and I own close to 5-thousand-dollar worth of Warhammer models lol. I feel like the best way to enjoy the hobby nowadays is just to live in my own bubble and enjoy it at my own pace…
ОтветитьDo not suffer the hobby tourist...
ОтветитьAlmost as bad a take as saying, "There's NO AGENDA".
ОтветитьBeta soyboi phenotype
Ответитьi have been watching warhammer videos over a year, from painting to meta analysis, ranked matches, i comment in reddit and other videos, i began to read all the books from the first edition onwards including side games... i haven't played a game yet, i haven't painted a mini yet and most importantly, i don't even own a miniature. i don't know if i am a hobby tourist or if i am the terminal man
ОтветитьThe words of a Tourist! If your looking to alter a game to your politics or to be “politicly correct” you are not Welcome.
We like our hobbies, and we will gate keep them. We see what it looks like if you don’t, Disney is a fine example with starwars or marvel of what happens to your hobby!
Hot garbage take on something you don't even understand
ОтветитьWell this is disappointing.
ОтветитьTabletop Midwit
ОтветитьThis is why ecelebs should be ignored, there's zero reason to listen to an average dude who has stated he doesn't even like warhammer.
ОтветитьUnsubbed
ОтветитьFor those wondering, this video has already been ratio'd with 3.2k likes to 3.6k dislikes. Arch did a fantastic response video to this, highly recommend everyone check it out. I am glad I unsubscribed from this intellectually dishonest nitwit.
Ответитьis "hobby gentrifier" or "hobby colonizer" a better way of getting at the idea?
Ответитьimagine you have a book club youve run for 10 years at your home. you and your group specifically read and discuss high fantasy novels. then one day a couple of random people just make their way inside and pull up chairs and join the group. "OK" you say to yourself...then one of them whips out a teen focused makeup magazine, the other pulls out a 5 page pamphlet from the local golf club. Now they demand your club share and read those things, instead of high fantasy novels.
Now, i already know your reply. you will say "they are entitled to their opinions". Sure. then they start to get louder and louder each week. Now they are screaming, crying and saying youre "GATEKEEPING!" because you guys only read high fantasy. Why wont you read the golfclub pamphlet? do you HATE people who play golf!? Do you HATE girls who want to read about makeup?!
At that point, you can do only do 2 things, either try to ignore them until they leave OR explain to them why this book club is only about high fantasy novels. You can of course lock the door to stop them from coming in, but then someone like yourself would complain about that too. about how thats unfair.
If you cave in and start changing the group so its about any kind of written words, soon youll notice those original 2 people that were screaming about golf and makeup have already moved on. They were never interested in high fantasy novels.
Also, you have a really ignorant attitude along the lines " can t we just get all along"?
ОтветитьHow are you supposed to to talk to people who are not on the same page?
How can you talk to someone if there is NO common ground?
There is an internal logic to warhammer, basic things that NEVER change (warp is dangerous to use) and people HAVE to adhere to it, ESPECIALLY if they want to change things.
Otherwise this whole thing FALLS APART.
Being originally from New Jersey, l have a special and purely verbal way of dealing with gatekeepers and overly opinionated gamers who disagree with how l go about my hobbies... It usually involves highly inappropriate non squitors, and uncomfortably long direct eye contact. Then l go back to my usual table top shenanigans.
I will defend others in the same way.
YMMV 🤷
