All those decades free & he gets 10 yrs for murder...??? If this gives Heidi any amount of peace and/or closure than I suppose its worth it. IMO 10 yrs for taking a life in reality could mean only 3+years in prison & thats simply not a punishment, but instead an insult to Loretta's memory & her loved ones who have had to carry on the last several decades without her. How anyone could arrive at 10 years as a satisfactory sentence for murder is unfathomable to me.

Every time I hear about a well publicized murder & the trial & its aftermath with sentencing I feel like we are given an illusion of justice being served. Rarely, if ever is a full sentence actually served. Its hopefully at the very least half served. The reality is 1/3 is about the average. Knowing that wouldnt you push for longer sentences??? Or why not just stop pretending these murderers are going to spend all these years incarcerated & giving the public a false sense of safety & just give a sentence you know will be the most likely served in full. Our system is broken & in desperate need of an overhaul if a 10 year sentence is an acceptable punishment for taking another human being's life IMO.

It is how it is. But I think they actually did him a favor. They locked him up in his old age where he will have everything for free. Care, food, etc. It is one thing if someone goes to prison at the age of, for example, 30, and another at the age of 70 (if the crime was committed in his youth). He took away this woman's youth and in return he got a peaceful old age. For him it is a reward, not a punishment.
