Crysis Remastered PC Review: Beautiful Tech, Brutally Limited Performance

I know I am late to the party but adding additional calculations to the render decrease performance thus making it run slower. Either you try to make it better on actual target hardware aka doing optimalization or you do not add this feature at all. Have fun everyone

Other than graphics which is a let down because upgrades caused the game the steer away from original art direction, AI is broken, controls are terrible on PC, and there arent really any gameplay improvements, they took the cheapest route to remaster this classic, also not including MP or Warhead campaign is just stupid

It is such a shame that Crysis Remastered did not use CryEngine V (or 5.5 - 5.6). Now that would've made Crysis 1 remaster look and perform better.
It's a shame that CryEngine 3 in Crysis 3 looks fantastic and good performance, but, the CryEngine 3 for Crysis 1 PC remaster caused significant performance issues, and depends mainly on Ray Tracing to look better, which I can just do with ReShade without any RT update..
I wish they would've went with CryEngine V

Now all we need after this re master is CRYSIS Remasted VR where the the PC will struggle even further putting CRYSIS far ahead another time.

Still looks last Gen AF, like geometry doesn't look great, not alot of tesselation- just looks like far cry 2 remastered I'd be more inclined to believe the name. Wow an unoptimized game from an arrogant company (crytek) doesn't run well.. what's new? It's not future proof of it is an unoptimized mess, where's the hype??
I think the battlefield graphical journey 1942 2142 ,2, 3, bad company etc is more applicable to affecting modern design more than effing crysis pshh

Why would they go back to the ps3 or xbox 360 version? Such a shame. Was going to buy, but I guess not.

i cannot run this on a 4090 and i7 13700k at 60fps 4k. Using dlss quality. even at very high im still getting bad drops

Did they ever fix the PC version to enable some of the effects that are missing?

Every game before ray tracing were not made for ray tracing and so it's hit and miss these days.

I was just about to pull the trigger on the remaster but then I saw all that was downgraded. I hope this has been, or will be, fixed.

As far as remasters go Diablo II Resurrected is among the best. Direct 1:1 3D graphics overlay on the original game. The only thing it's missing is resolution scaling. It does do all the other tricks though, and is as pure as we could have hoped for. Crysis is a letdown. They've done some patching, but the differences and losses are so fundamental that this isn't something a studio normally ever chases down and fixes. MCC and the PC port of Halo 1 is the only example I can think of where they gave something a true going-over and fixed it right. I hope with the release of the trilogy they will continue to support this game and improve as much as possible. Otherwise I will continue to ignore this game and stick with modding the original. Crysis Enhanced mod looks nearly as good.

You can manually set physics to another CPU core and it helps alleviate the overloading on the primary core. I've had no problem getting better performance than my peers in the hard areas for a long time. My 4790K did it fine.

sys_physics_CPU=3 will set it to your 4th core. Hope this helps anyone wanting to run this classic. I have it pretty heavily modded so this is essential.

I wonder if Rockstar was inspired by this. Make a remaster with the inferior version of the original. With this it's the Xbox/PS version...with GTA...mobile version.

Crysis orginal is made with CryEngine 2 which is only for PC ,that engine is a monster! There are things in the orginal ver of the game that we don't see in many games even today that why orginal is much better in all things than crysis remastered on ps3 and xbox 360 on Cryengine 3 console version , i think they lost codes or things from CryEngine 2 ver of the orginal game thats why they had to remaster the ps3 version for ps4 ps5 and xbsx even pc !

but sure ray tracing and SVOGi + higher better textures is nice and all but many things are missing from 2007 CryEngine 2 version that magic i saw in 2007 ver will stay on CryEngine 2 of the game for pc i think.

Looks like many problems have been fixed (or at least the changelogs imply that), but no HW-accelerated RT for Radeon/RDNA2 yet, which is inexcusable since the standard Vulkan RT API has been out for almost a year now. So, here's one perfect target-audience for this game -- nostalgic gamer in his forties with plenty disposable income to burn on remasters of classics -- that's not buying any of the Crysis remasters any time soon.

Some things better, some things worse, overall I think the remastered is worse.

Original version sometime like cartoon but the light effect is amazing and Physic are awesome. The remaster i feel like MUDDY all the time, that why same hardware the original archive lower FPS cause there is more to do with the engine, the new ENGINE is a simplify version of the original.

theres a fair few questionable things about the Crysis remaster imo. But the main thing for me is the animations. The first-person animations are still the old, low-effort-looking, floaty and kinda janky ones from the original Crysis, and lack a lot of flair, smoothness or realism. I'm surprised they kept the originals, out of everything they could've reworked and overhauled they chose to keep them.

Honestly I'd fly over to Frankfurt to fix them, they irritate me that much

Thanks as always for the comparisons. I used to replay Crysis 1 every time I built a new PC, to see how far I could push it. The most recent time I did, even though certain parts still looked pretty good, I could tell that we had come a long way. I was genuinely excited for the remaster, but after this I think I'll wait and see if the community can make it "Crysis" again. It's not just about the eye candy, but all the little details and what could be done with the engine of the game.

All i could say is should of ether used the original PC version in the first place to remaster it or just remake the game from the ground up for modern PC hardware

Art is better than realism.

Basically. I want to have gameplay and mechanics perfect .. as graphics are OK in orginal @ very high already. Plus, there are mods that improves graphics already for original. Fuck this remastered crap.. one more money cow.
