I think the team behind Marvel Rivals saw just how many Linux users they had in general, and decided that they want to keep those players. I mean, would a company of their size decide to just outright deny themselves 10% or more of their player base only because they use Linux? Because many companies would not do that, and many other companies would do that, so I guess it's up to them. And if Linux players end up seeming to have more hackers, then maybe people could have Windows-only characters, and characters of anything-except-windows, and the two groups of characters could simply not be able to interact with eachother in-game, maybe except sending and receiving messages.
ОтветитьSure seems like whoever is engineering cachyos is a huge fan of buzzword fodder. rt kernels (that don't help most desktop use cases) replacing tried and true software with rust (must be faster, it's rust right?). I had to peel that distro off my laptop because the app launch lag and stuttery frame times were unbearable. Some very neat ideas going on there, I hope they start making data driven design choices instead of dog fooding buzzwords.
ОтветитьI have no idea honestly why people are hyped over GPU accelerated terminal.. Am I getting old?
Ответитьa note for everyone, Discord no longer supports screen sharing on wayland since the last update on nightly/beta
ОтветитьThe Nobara "team"? I thought it was just Glorious Eggroll
ОтветитьReally nice episode. You mentioned a lot of exciting things, thanks man.
Ответить@Michael Tunnell - CachyOs as the first you said. Its named after a turtle, and the green theme :) Good luck to the people trying to get in contact with NetEase.. Pretty much get a bot replay on what ever you try to solve. There is an issue over at Once Human as well, where they have added an anti cheat that screw up things for Linux gamers. I have been trying to talk to a person over there, on different sites etc. Nobody home :P
ОтветитьGhostty being developed on NixOS by the creator of Terraform is not very surprising 😁
Ответитьis still don't know how would you render a ttf font with high quality with out the gpu
ОтветитьGhostty is a good option but it's making a lot of claims that so far don't really seem to be materializing. I do love and appreciate very much that they want to offer a libghostty as a way for other apps to provide integrated graphics. This to me seems like a huge deal. In the future, maybe it can become a standard library that a wide variety of apps use and therefore contribute and optimize ghostty. This would be great with how slow so many integrated terminals are.
And when do I notice this terminals being slow? Mainly, for me, startup. I live in the terminal so I have done a lot to optimize startup time and still have all my scripts and clis/tuis. Conda, fast node versión manager, and many more clis have startup init scripts that slow down startup time. But I have also tested for example using fastfetch, tree, and other tools and yes, if you have a long running process, especially if it needa to print to the screen, it can be slower by minutes. In my testing startup time is best on alacritty. And pretty much any test for the most part. But of course, no configuration like on kitty or Western.
All this to say, if you don't live on the terminal, you shouldn't care what terminal you use. Makes not difference there. Otherwise it's a tradeoff. Alacritty is just the fastest period. Kitty has so many features and customizing westerm with Lua is just a pleasure. Ghostty probably has something. Glsl shaders I guess.
No tolken
ОтветитьBecause you use a terminal to do work. Ghosty is aimed at people that use terminal to flex their fetch and their art in screenshots.
ОтветитьHere is a benefit for GPU acceleration in the terminal. Not having to wait for your terminal to catch up to your compiled program in Gentoo. GPU acceleration literally saved me 30 minutes on the compile time for Firefox recently. Compile time when from 90 minutes in Konsol to 60 minutes running Alacrity. To think, all of that time waiting, on the terminal to catch up and exit emerge -vu firefox.
ОтветитьI spent the last 2 frigging days trying to get cachyos to connect with samba and winning to Active Directory and failed over and over again. Switched back to Mankato used same conf files that failed on cachyos and it worked like a charm
I’m fffung pissed. I liked cachyos but after that cluster fuck I’m done.
In fact I’m done with the integrated is I’m switching to pure arch tomorrow
why the f would you want gpu accelaration in a TERMINAL emulator? it is confusing for newbs they think the scripts and cli programs run faster.
ОтветитьBottles in Python (not sure in what it is) or Rust.. what does it matter? it is a wrapper with a flutter or similar gui
ОтветитьHello Michael, I'd appreciate a walk through/reaction video for GIMP 3.0 RC2 please 🙂
Ответитьgimp 4 will be released just about when GTK69 is finalized
ОтветитьI know very little, But, i do feel Yazi is faster running on Ghostty, maybe there the acceleration is needed
ОтветитьGhostty- I don't care what an app or OS looks like, within reason. I don't theme, plain black background. As long as it's easy to use, supports the light/dark choice, and gets out of my way, I'm good. Mint Cinnamon really does a great job of this.
ОтветитьI'am gonna follow you, just dont let me down
ОтветитьHang on... Did he say "Like that smash button"?
ОтветитьI always watch the intro to see you say "Linux. GNews"! love the content . Keep it coming.. ++ KDE Rocks !!!
Ответитьis the open source nvidia driver worth using now?
ОтветитьHey everyone is there still problems with nvidia+wayland and still videogaming almost impossible?
ОтветитьBrody went over this on his channel, cuz he made the same assumption, then found out you can turn off the gtk decorators and have no decorators which would make it fit nicely with some of the tiling window managers, or you can also tell it in a can fig file as opposed to the property settings UI, to tell it to use the desktop managers native decorators
ОтветитьI dont see the need for a gpu accelerated terminal.🤔 Yet, anyway. Ill stick to xterm, thanks...
ОтветитьI have Warp and I am happy... don't see how new terminal would be better
ОтветитьI've been using CachyOS since about May 2024. I'll never go back to Nobara, not even as a backup system. The Nobara updater is notoriously bad for mucking up updates. Which is a shame because when it works it's a great system, as long as you don't upgrade it.
ОтветитьMarvelous.
ОтветитьI use nobara and bazzite so was good to see an update to nobara as bazzite seems to be more up to date but is very close to the same. Personally the 2 distros have so few differences that I can very easily forget which one I am using they just feel like the same distro with some small differences.
ОтветитьThanks for making me discover that there's now a Ghostty community build for Ubuntu-based distros. When I first looked into that app, there wasn't, turns out it was made 2 days later.
ОтветитьMy only issue with Ghostty is GTK. Does Qt not have zig bindings?
ОтветитьGhostty supports different font size in split screens, something I always wanted.
ОтветитьGhostty Mac Universal Binary doesn't work for Intel Mac running Monterey 12.7, unfortunately for anyone with an i7 Intel Mac mini 2014 Ghostty min req is MacOS 13 or higher 😢
ОтветитьC# is great for xplatform work btw.
ОтветитьGIMP REACTION VIDEO IS REALLY NEEDED!!!!
Ответить! THERE'S NO LINK TO SANDFLY SECURITY IN YOUR DESCRIPTION AREA ! Just wanted you to get your rightful commission for my purchase. Thank you for all of your hard work & dedication...
ОтветитьSeems like a 'friendly' Openshot vs Kdenlive 2025 topic might be a cool video idea.
ОтветитьHOW DO U PRONOUNCE CACHYOS!!!
ОтветитьI really wanted to switch to ghostty. Wasn't supported on Pop 22.04 (due to ancient gtk), and lack of support for qt on Bazzite and poor performance when closing (having to wait 5+ seconds before being able to re-open) ended up deal breakers for now but I'm keeping an eye on it.
ОтветитьI run CachyOS Handheld Edition on my Legion Go. Windows didn't even boot once.
ОтветитьI love guake terminal emulator, just press f12 to make is show or hide and I've been using it so long, would be hard to switch. I don't do anything that would benefit from gpu acceleration in the terminal i don't think - usually just updating packages, using tools like grep, etc.
ОтветитьYes, I too was disappointed when I actually tried Gostty. Didn’t live up to the hype. Went back to alacritty and xfce term. (I’m on AwesomeWM)
ОтветитьNobara Comments
I like Nobara a lot but keep falling back on Mint after each try. Games play fine in Mint but they seem cleaner and faster in Nobara. My laptop has an older Nvidia card so problems pop-up in Nobara (only in games). I have used these versi8ons:
36 Games ran fine (small black streaks)
37 Games have big black areas (cannot play)
38 Like 36 with bigger and more streaks
39 Like 36 with smaller streaks
40 Didn’t try
41 Tried recently and currently
Everything, including games work very well in 41, based on Fedora.
Regards
I can honestly say that after been in the DOS/Windows era for close to 40 years the improvements of wayland and CachyOS might actualy fully turn me away from windows forever.. It has been the best Linux experience I've ever had after many tries with a lot of different distros over the years.
CachyOS = win
Nobarra however is a no go with my 5080.... Can't make it get to the installer either by booting from ventoy, dedicated stick or whatever... UEFI/Grub either way, no go... This is garbage in its current state.
re. "platform native" ... `window-decoration = false`
Problem solved 🤣
