Surena IV is the latest humanoid robot built by over 50 engineers at the University of Tehran’s Center for Advanced Systems and Technologies (CAST). Standing 1.7 meters tall, this adult-size robot can mimic human movement, grasp delicate objects, write on a whiteboard, and even take a selfie with its creators. Compared to previous versions, Surena IV is significantly improved with 43 degrees of freedom, force sensors for stable walking on uneven surfaces, and highly dexterous hands that can operate tools.
Its internal upgrades include stereo cameras, torque sensors, and an advanced whole-body motion controller, making it much more nimble and interactive. The control system runs at 200 Hz using FPGA boards, and the robot utilizes ROS and simulation tools like MATLAB and Gazebo for precise motion planning.
Designed not for war, but as a symbol of technological progress, Surena IV reflects peaceful innovation. Whether it’s walking backwards or handling tasks with its custom actuators, this robot is Iran’s most futuristic leap in robotics.
