I was in Brussels a couple months ago on a quick vacation. I got around the tourist crowds by going out at sunrise. Sadly, I am too old to enjoy the nightlife 😂 Thank you for your content.

Brussels is the only city in Europe I've been to that I felt genuinely unsafe. Parts of it are really nice but a lot of it is very grubby and unpleasant. Ghent and Antwerp were a lot more interesting to me.

A cardinal sin: picking your fries with your fingers! Never ever do that in Belgian restaurant! It's something you can afford to do in a "frietkot" (buying frites to go) but never if the fries are part of a full meal. It's extremely rude and it's even likely to be felt by many Belgians as insulting. It's as if fries - a "sacred national value" in Belgium - were some subfood, which did not need to be taken seriously. In the Belgian conception, fries are a food like any other (if anything, held in higher esteem than lots of other foods), so they ought to be eaten the regular way: with a fork!
