I’m gonna be real with you she’s right!!! All single player video games should have a pause, if you have small kids around you trust me you ain’t focusing 100% on that game and you might need to stop it from time to time to do something. Not to mention other things that might need you to stop the game for a moment like going to the bathroom. Being able to pause any single player games should be a mandatory requirement to publish your game on any platform. As for Elden rings, difficulty absolutely it should have easy, normal, and hard modes so anybody can enjoy them (fun is the most important part of the video game and most people play games for fun not challenge) For anyone that thinks it doesn’t just ask yourself this question if somebody else beats a game 10,000 miles away from you playing on a different difficulty level. How does that affect your experience? lol. Somebody is an extremely talented gamer and better than 99% of people that play video games. (I have beat every from software game ever made without any trouble) Also I’ve completed in tournaments and won some. I’m just gonna be real with you for me beating something like Elden ring is Tuesday for those people that think it’s an accomplishment its the biggest ting in there life and they want to feel special. But if you go into the real world and you start telling people about how Elden Ring you beat Elden ring it’s a hard game that most people can’t you’re gonna be laught at

My kids are the best part of my life. I would never call them a disability. I call it being a parent or an adult.

I think the issue here is using "disability" for things that are really just inconveniences. Life is full of inconveniences, and it's fine to develop with those in mind, but you can't equate an inconvenience to someone who is physically or mentally unable to perform an action.

I am type 1 diabetic, if I were to be playing a game where you can't pause quickly at any moment and I were to get an intense low during a heavy in game moment, yeah that pause button would be handy to not lose any progress in single player games

Parents always get overly emotional, I agree her choice of words were poor, but it's being blown out of proportion. So she's woke now for a lapse in articulation, for some poor word choice? I'll give you some poor choice of words; Get bent. Single player games should have a pause button, that would be cool for everyone. She didn't say you wouldn't drop your controller, and she misused the word "disability," and people got upset needlessly. Everyone threw the baby out with the bathwater on this one!

Ironically there is a pause button for elden ring. Its a bit backwards but it's around in the menus.

I understand the sentiment of wanting a pause button. I also get that when you have kids your time for gaming takes a backseat. I have kids. So when you have “accessibility” settings that make it easier to enjoy a game and get to finish it, it’s amazing. But by no means is it required. Gaming is art right? So we pay to play it the way the “artists” intend it right? But this all doesn’t take away from the fact that calling having kids a disability astonishingly stupid. It’s not a disability. It presents a challenge but does not impacts your ability to play or enjoy something. And if you are knowing that you’re getting into entertainment that is challenging, then you have to prioritize things like you would with anything else. Wait for nap time, or when they go to bed. Or play something else that you can do with them. That’s life.

Something i will bring up is there is a thing going around about astmatics now.. i dont consider my astma as a disability.. it gets bad but i have ways of getting around it and have not needed a doctor since i was 9 years old for it. you dont tell someone that they should take pride in their disability or use it to take advantage of situations and get treated enequally better than other individuals.. people should be taught to be able to bypass the roadblocks in life that the disability may cause. be tougher than the thorn in your side...missing an arm? use your feet.. find ways to use your other arm.. asthma? take that time to relax and practice your breathing and i can guarantee you that you can beat someone in a game of breath holding. take advantage of your disability.. dont use your disability to take advantage of a free ride in life or of other people. Its as if these people want disabled people to just melt over a couch for the rest of their lives instead of actually getting up and living. They are not trying to help us with the govt checks.. they are trying to get us out of their way. thats why i dont take their handout. Also if its that bad to where i need a pause feature maybe its GOD or HIS universe telling me to get off my butt and move around before i get butt sores or risk a heart attack from sitting down 24/7.

It's actually worse than this if people actually dug a little bit past the surface of their immediate anger. She's saying something Microsoft has listed as disability. Why the Hell is no one ragging on MS for them introducing this concept? Maybe it's not good enough for videos to say that a corporation believes children are a situational disablity. She worded everything wrong. What she should have called it was "situational emergencies" instead. Like when the unexpected happens where you have to walk away for a second. There is a way to "pause" the game but it's really counter intuitive (mods can do it, too, and one is available at Nexus Mods). I think, though, to some people, they don't want the discussion about the pause button to happen at all, and are attacking her to make sure that they shut down the discussion (the other side of this being how toxic the DS community can be at times). At that point, it becomes detached from the discussion SHE'S trying to bring up. Though I will say that she didn't ask for an "easy mode" like Jim Sterling did, and Frit didn't exactly do himself any favors with how he clipped that (his tweet is now Community Noted), not giving full context into what she was saying, and several people went off of just his clip without seeing the full video.

Turn the video games off. Look after your children. Be a parent

In her defence she said it’s an industry term, she didn’t make it up and did say kids aren’t a disability , it’s more about the circumstances and how tech companies try to accommodate just so they can keep your attention on whatever the product is, that being said, I think the term is stupid.

If you have ever paused a game to accomplish a quick task, you know the merit of a pause button. I don't know why, when an SJW wants it, are people arguing against basic functionality present in 99% of games that aren't online multiplayer

This seems to be a case of the modern tendency to redefine words for comfort and convenience by using the etymology or structure of a word to include your own criteria rather than the established, colloquial meaning of the word.

If I have nervous constipation and can't pass a stool for 5 or 6 days, that doesn't mean I'm "disabled".... it just means I'm "not able..... to curl one out for 5-6 days". Nothing more.

Like the difference between someone not being able to see the screen in the sunlight vs not being able to see screens because you're blind is to do with choice!

An able-bodied person can go look at their phone in the shade or indoors, but blind people HAVE NO OPTIONS OR CHOICE. No matter what a blind person does, short of a cure, they cannot see screens. They have no choice.

They're doing this to centre healthy, able-bodied people in discussions that are supposed to be about helping disabled people gain access to things they wouldn't have any access to otherwise.

Pausing your video game has been a fundamental piece of game design for almost 50 years. Not having it in a game is just a slap in the face.
By the way, the OverWatch example is a poor one because it is a online game and you can't pause online games and differs from singular player games.
