Thank you for this, but I think you're missing the point. Whether a game is good or not is purely a subjective decision. So, if an Assassins Creed game is not stealthy enough or has mythological elements that a person won't like, then that means they won't like the game, so it is a bad game FOR THEM. Conversely, if a person loves well written sidequests that are engaging and a great combat system, and doesn't mind that the game isn't Asasssin Creedy enough, then they will like it, and thus, it is a good game FOR THEM.
With a huge backlog of games that all demand my attention and time, I don't think I will be touching Valhalla, so thanks.
I've played Odyseey, and it is THE best AC game I have ever played. Like you said, there was just a level of effort put into it that is unparralled. All of the side quests(not the repeatable ones) were all unique and interesting. I can't recommend it enough, and it is in my top five favorite games of all time. Another one is Days gone, which, for some reason, Sony hates.
There is another thing you said that I disagree with. You said the DLC was underwhelming. Man, I loved the DLC. I feel that the same effort that was put into the main game was put into the DLC. But thank you for this video. It's appreciated, considering that I don't think AC: Odyssey gets enough love. 😞
Personally, I like this game. I like getting lost in the massive world. Is it my favourite game, no but I do go back to it from time to time. Just reinstalled it today. Giving it another go before AC Mirage.
ОтветитьI found odyssey to be really fun, it's a good game. Just not a good assasins creed game
ОтветитьWhat makes AC odyssey good to me is I can role play a conflicted mercenary who is spartan born but chooses Athens for political reasons
ОтветитьOdessy > Valhalla
ОтветитьI loved the game the name doesnt change it
ОтветитьThe only thing I didn't like about AC Odyssey was the amount of stuff to do and how big the map was 😭😭😭 game is great otherwise
ОтветитьMost bloated game ever. Same buildings same landscape and so many outposts please make it stop. Im getter tired thinking about it
ОтветитьMe personally Odyssey was one of my favorite Ubisoft games within the past decade or so. I dumped 100+ hours and enjoyed my time. Honestly i probably liked the game so much because it was not like the other AC games. After ezios triology i was kind of done with the AC formula.
Ответитьis good for is a 7/10 witcher3 clone, is bad for it's called assassin'creed
ОтветитьOdyssey was my second assassins creed game after black flag. Funnily enough, it’s Odyssey and my overwhelmingly positive experience with it that got me to play more of the series like ACIII, Unity and now I’m looking forward to Mirage
ОтветитьLuke, you make a lot of valid points. Gread video as usual!
PS:Valhalla's The Prodigy and Winnie the Pooh world events are unmatched!
Defense? Why would you need to defend good game. Hate ubisoft all you want its still good.
ОтветитьIt starts slow for me... but once you get your ship going... once your crew is a thing... hmm..
chefs kiss...
It's the perfect game for steam deck. It's basically western Zelda botw.
ОтветитьI enjoyed my playthrough of the game and dlc. If, however, they cut a good 30 to 40% of the bloat, the game could have been one of the best! A great story with the main and dlc combined and way less grinding needed. The grind really spoils the flow of the story.
ОтветитьI loved odyssey played it like 1.5 times lol couldn’t get like a third of the way thru Valhalla tho
ОтветитьI got caught in the hate trend of this game when it first released but I have jsut found this video and it made me want to give it another chance so I did restarted it as kasandra and wow its is a very good game still don't really class it as assassins creed but as a game it is very good I have played all the games favourites being ac2 ac3 ac unity and ac origins so I am open minded and jsut want to thank you for this video and giving me the want to give the game a 2nd chance
ОтветитьOdyssey is phenomenal
ОтветитьSo here's my take before I've even watched the video because I actually think Luke and I are of a similar mindset about this game:
I've never really played Assassin's Creed. Like, I have, once, played Assassin's Creed 2, briefly doing the opening tutorial in like 2013 or something(no idea when it was free on Xbox Live Gold games one month and I was like "oh hey that's a game I would try" and tried it and was like "this is neat" and then never touched it again).
So bear with me here, I'm NOT an Assassin's Creed fan, I've not played any games of that franchise outside of Odyssey(well, I have since played a little of Valhalla and Origins, but I didn't like either of those as much as I like Odyssey so they kind of just rot in the backlog now).
That isn't to say I don't think it's a cool franchise or that I have negative views, opinions, or things to say about the franchise or its fans, just that I'm not one of them and so my viewpoint on the game is an entirely outsider's perspective and why you shouldn't just listen to people hating on this game because they are probably Assassin's Creed fans and have a very super particular way they want the game to be in order to fit their purview of what an Assassin's Creed game should be. Trust me, as a huge Call of Duty fan I'm the exact same way about that franchise - I hate modern CoD and think it is horrific - but that's just because I have a specific idea of what CoD is and none of the modern experiences fit that very well.
With ALL of that disclaimer out of the way here's how I see Odyssey:
This game is an absolutely fantastic RPG with fun, engaging, deep RPG mechanics, fun quests, well written dialogue sequences and an absolutely addicting loop of discovering a place, completing all things to do in that place, stealthing your way around places, ambushing enemies, etc.
Then, to top it off - it has a very serviceable and dare I say GOOD ship combat and exploration system. Absolutely phenomenal stuff for an RPG fan like me.
In addition to this - the game is set in ancient Greece which is one of my personal historical fascinations and their fun takes on historical events from that time period and some of the famous characters, the mythologies, and all the other little details are simply superb, interesting, and a pure joy to behold.
Then, the icing on the cake - the super deep Mercenary and secret society trees. The fact that the game has a rival system on top of its wanted system is already stellar. But the fact that the story beats are layered over the top of this secret society and you piece together clues from these prominent figures in Greek society to discover the big bad is simply inspired stuff.
I have almost no complaints about the game - except that I would like to be able to tweak difficulty settings more finely like you can in Valhalla - but maybe even beyond that like full on let me scale damage values to the exact percentages I want to create truly custom difficulty - because that by itself is the answer to every difficulty problem within gaming in my personal opinion.
I am not trying to make the game "easier" but playing on easy gives me as the player the amount of power I feel you should have in the game but it also unfortunately makes enemies a pushover. I want easy difficulty's level of player power and hard to very hard's level of enemy difficulty smashed together, so both enemies and I are the most dynamic and the most powerful versions of ourselves so we can have the most dynamic and interesting combat encounters and it is just mind-numbingly stupid to me that this concept somehow got left behind in the N64 era.
Don't get me wrong, power absolutely should be earned, but there is no reason I should struggle to survive until 40 hours into a game where I can just then start breaking even.
You should be able to survive - maybe a little struggle - early game, and then you slowly become OP as the game progresses.
I feel like Odyssey and the other Assassin's Creed RPG's do a pretty good spin on this and so that is partly why I gravitate towards them as well.
I do miss the assassination aspects but it’s still my favorite ac game
ОтветитьAs an assassins creed i think its uncomparably the worst but as a standalone rpg it can be good(i played it once)
ОтветитьMy first AC was Origins, and then Odyssey, so I was privileged to be able to enjoy it purely for what it was and not for what it was "supposed" to be. I really enjoyed Odyssey but I would have to agree that it was way too big. After over 100 hours I still had only discovered 50% of the map. That sounds good on paper but tbh I got exhausted. It was beautiful but kind of empty and repetitive. I think my favorite between the two was Origins.
Ответитьall the sidequests in this game are the same my guy, its go to this place kill some dudes return gg.
Ответитьyour main points against valhalla can be applied for odyssey if you didnt realise
ОтветитьI played this like a year or 2 ago and heard it was bad . I did have the Xp pass all be it but I got so sucked in unlike I have with any game in recent memory. I’m downloading it now to go back to it lol. I stopped after the main story pretty much but there is so much more to do. They crushed it . If anyone else made this game it would he consider an all time masterpiece I really believe. Love the historical accuracy
Ответитьthis feels like an improvement to the amazing assassins creed origins
ОтветитьI liked it, I also thought impact quests were very neat (basically consequences of your actions)
ОтветитьYour consistent praising of AC Odyssey has sold me on the game, I enjoyed Origins and Odyssey takes it one step further and within the Greek world. I heard it was full of busy work but watching your videos, it's just a bigger world with interesting side quests (also observed how boring Vahalla is).
ОтветитьI am diehard AC fan and I think that change in style was needed. Odyssey is different than any other AC game but I love it.
ОтветитьI think it's where AC got too bloated.
Ответить😂 odyssey is My Favorite of the O & Valhalla Editions via A-Creed though! 💪! Ubisoft treats me NICELY as well.. also; supernatural elements are my jam; so I didn't mind Those implementations. Lol
ОтветитьYou know what all AC games have been great, sometimes you just got to play the games yourself and not listen to all the haters, i bet half of those who bad mouth origins, odyssey or Valhalla online have never even played the games … I’m currently playing all 3 of these titles and they are all great games, period.
ОтветитьThis is my favourite Assassin's Creed game, i love it so much i completed 100% this game 2 times, i and i will do it a 3rd time
ОтветитьI’m a sucker for Greek Mythology so that’s pretty much why this ac game is my favorite
ОтветитьMakes me so happy that people are coming around to this game. You’re playing as a Spartan in Ancient Greece what’s not to love about that?
Ответитьim not that into rpgs but personally this is my favorite one out of all rpgs ive played this one takes the cake due to its insane amoun ts of mechanics perks grinding that is fun, sea battles treasure hunting and the overall use of mythos in the narrrative this may not feel like an AC but rather a franchise of its own a totally yet similar game with mercenaries hunting you a cult around you and hidden abilities among different weaponaries it really does feel like a mythical adventure, it rather feels much more like a... Odyssey.
ОтветитьI was a fan of GOW since like forever, but Ragnarok was over within a week or so, truly loved Hogwarts, just finished Jedi survivor, looking forward to outlaws but instead of going back to RDR2 to kill time, or finishing the Ghost of Ts.., a friend of mine insisted on me playing Odyssey(since Covid first lockdown).. I bought Valhalla when it came out, played 10 min and that was my first true interaction with AC games/gameplay etc… long story short, I am Greek, so that plays in, but the massive endless story/side quests/reality/mythology/etc.. whether, it’s an AC game, or whether it got of the rails, it’s up there at my top 5 if not 3 games of all time. Yes it lacks the visuals, but we are closing almost 6 years now since it’s release, and some gameplay details that annoy me now and then, I do wish they were extinct but I still can’t believe 113 hrs later, im still not halfway there yet and how lost I am in this vast map.. I’ll stop now and go to try to kill the Minotaur
ОтветитьOdyssey is grindy but most of it is still pretty fun and interesting. Abilities gated behind spear level, which you have to level up by doing side content - oh btw that side content is taking down members of the main antagonist group of the game. I've LOVED hunting cultists and finding clues on that. I've put off a good bit of main content just to hunt down all available cultists. I also love how cultist reveals are sprinkled into the main and semi-main content as well. I think the quest structure in this game is extremely well done and actually gives you a reason to WANT to do it rather than just being forced to
Ответить- "For one it's not going to be a series of complaints that I'm making because Assassin's Creed Odyssey isn't Assassin's Creedy."
- "I'm not gonna do that and the reason I'm not going to be doing this is because it's actually a fallacy. A fallacy of irrelevant conclusion which basically just means that it's committed when the conclusion changes the point that is at issue in the premises of an argument. Special cases of irrelevant conclusion are presented by the so-called fallacies of relevance."
An irrelevant conclusion, also known as missing the point, is the informal fallacy of presenting an argument that may or may not be logically valid and sound, but (whose conclusion) fails to address the issue in question.
Which is quite funny considering that the argument of "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" is not an "Assassin's Creed game" but a fallacy of irrelevant conclusion. In fact the simple fact that the game is called "Assassin's Creed Odyssey" and not simply "Odyssey" for the sole purpose of using a name to sell copies makes an argument in itself.
Because when we talk about Assassin's Creed, we talk about assasin, assassination, stealth, parkour and a whole bunch of things that make Assassin's Creed what it is. Odyssey is just an average RPG that has absolutely no connection to Assassin's Creed other than stealing the name of a license for the sole purpose of making a profit.
You just want to avoid arguing that the game isn't Assassin's Creed using the fact that saying that is a fallacy of irrelevant conclusion because you know damn well that you have no argument to counter that one. You love an RPG more than average whose quantity exceeds quality. An RPG that has absolutely nothing to do with a license in which it would like to be inserted.
Finally, the only thing I would add is that you pretend that Assassin's Creed Valhalla is an absolute travesty when the real travesty is the game trying to pretend to be what it is not... an Assassin's Creed.
I know this video is from 9 months ago BUT I have something to say about it. It does have a REAL ENDING with credit titles at the end. Once you have done everything in Greece you have to go back to Khephalonia and right at the harbor there's a purple square where you should go and talk to a woman, this will take you on vacation to the island of Korfu, where you need to complete all the quests (3) and find all the Ostrakas and the treasure. Once this is done you will find the REAL ENDING where the Credits appear and you can close the story. In fact, don't akip the credits just fasta forward them and you'll have an extra cool cut scene. Cheers
ОтветитьI had a lot of fun grinding! In other games like Mafia 3 its gets really repetitive and felt impossible to finish the game. I had a different feeling with Odyssey: I don´t want to finish it because exploring the world and completing quests its so much fun!! Thanks for this amazing video!
Ответитьit's not assassin's creed enough it has no hidden blade
ОтветитьWhy couldn't they have just made the Odyssey instead of squeezing it in as an Assassin Creed. Corporate thinking. The franchise is flimsy as it is.
Ответитьsince when does this game get a bad rap? It has 100k+ reviews on steam, with a 90% rating...
Ответитьi loved odyssey. played revelations and black flag years ago on the xbox 360. when i got a ps4 i played spiderman, and then god of war, and then odyssey and then fallout 4 then sekiro. each game became my new favorite at the time, but the world of odyssey was so massive and immersive it blew me away.
ОтветитьWhile I agree with you on the overall quality of side content in odyssey being better than Valhalla, in fairness to Valhalla, you didn’t even engage in the random quest you picked, and failed to mention the true value of finding a piece of gear in a chest, given that all gear in the game is unique with unique stats made very particularly to synergize with specific play styles, and meanwhile the quest you did in odyssey is one of the best ones in the game as it pertains to the cult and thus has a lot more work put into it than some of the trash ones
ОтветитьOnly problem is if you make an assassins creed game then YOU NEED FUCKING ASSASSINS. THE HIDDEN BLADE, ICONIC WEAPON OF THE ASSASSIN CREED FRANCHISE? GONE. ASSASSINS? THE THING IN THE NAME OF THE FRANCHISE? GONE
Thank you for your time 😊
I started the series just 4-5 months ago and my first game was odyssey, after i played black flag and ac 2 that got recommended to me by a friend i just think that both game styles are good
ОтветитьIm still playing this game and its amazing
Ответить
