Spectacular Munnar - Pothamedu & Chithirapuram Viewpoints | Munnar Memories - Ep 4 | Steps Together

In this episode of the Munnar Travel Series, we cover two stunning viewpoints: Pothamedu viewpoint and Chithirapuram viewpoint. Both offer breathtaking views of the region.

Pothamedu View Point is 4.5 km from Munnar Town and 6.5 km from the 2nd Mile View Point.

The Ramaswamy Aiyar Headworks Dam is a small check dam constructed across the Muthirappuzha River and is part of the Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project, Kerala's first hydropower project. It is located on the route to the Pothamedu viewpoint and is fed by the controlled release of water from the Maduppetty Dam.

This dam enroute to Pothamedu viewpoint serves as a bridge, allowing only three-wheelers or small four-wheelers to pass through. It is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pothamedu Viewpoint is renowned for its panoramic views of the Kannan Devan Hills, the lush tea gardens, and other picturesque landscapes such as the Muthirapuzha River and Idukki Arch Dam. On a clear day, the Idukki Arch Dam, located roughly 60 km away, can be seen from this viewpoint.

This spot is a popular destination for trekking and appreciating nature's beauty. It is a must-see for tourists visiting Munnar, and is especially stunning during sunset.

Chithirapuram Viewpoint is 8 km from Pothamedu Viewpoint and 10 km from Munnar. This hill town, located in the Munnar region of Kerala, India, was developed alongside Munnar when the Duke of Wellington first visited in 1790. It gradually became a home for British officials and their families as the British Raj expanded. Even after India gained independence in 1947, Chithirapuram has kept many of its colonial features, such as its architecture, which can be seen in the bungalows and homestays that welcome tourists.
