Is there any way to see which format has the external drive after we connect it to iPad?

I have a problem with my external hard drive which used to read and write files to my iPad , now it only reads files ! Can i fix that ?

thanks Tao. You answered a problem I had not being a Mac person. My 1TB drive was coming up read only. Converted it to ExFat all all woks fine now.

Is there any possibility to bring read and write option in NTFS for ios

I’m hoping you could give me some assistance. I have an iPad Pro (2021) 12.9. I bought an adapter so I could play videos and edit pictures from my external hard drive. When I received the adapter I plugged it I played a movie just to make sure it worked which it did. I unplugged and went about my day. The next day I wanted to watch a movie from my ext hard drive and randomly everything on that drive came up read only. The ex hard drive works on my tv and computer with no issue. I have formatted other ext hard drives and flash drives to Exfat to make sure it was compatible with my iPad to no avail. I have probably spent 3+ hours on the phone with apple support to try and rectify this issue. No matter what I try all files are read only. Apple is telling me to contact the external hard drive manufacturers which will make no difference I’m sure as I have 4 different brands 1 being brand new. This ipad is only 4 months old. I truly hope you have some idea as to what I can do.

how did you rename the external drives? Can it be done from IOS or did you use Windows?

Yes, I’m switching from PC to Apple today. I was trying to format my PC external drive on the iPad Pro, but there is no right-click dropdown menu. I was able to transfer all the files from the external to the iPad. I’ll just use my PC to format the external drive to exFat so I can use it with my iPad.

hey, what if you formating your hard drive and change it into exfat? is it possible? and is it causing a problem when you're transfering with ipad os 15
