Funm fact: The reason why he likes lavender so much is because back when the pla*ue was around, plague doctors had sweet smelling herbs inside their masks. Since he can smell them from the outside, that probably means his herbs are either rotted, maybe causing him to go crazy or the herbs weren't there in the first place and someone built the mask inside of him purposely not putting in herbs

If the clothing and mask are part of his body, does it mean he is naked?

I think i know what the pestilence is its the 3rd horseman of the apocalypse, the 3rd horseman can control diseases and the plague doctor maybe able to sense his next target and he tries to cure the unknown disease the pestilence gives them. And that disease may start the apocalypse

guys. Pestilence is also known as the black death, so he basically time travelled and thought it was still there. So he creates zombies as tests.

I don’t think this SCP is evil. I just believe it will do what it thinks is for the greater good, no matter the cost. It has no morals, or feelings about things. It just sees logic. Its goal is a noble one, cure life of whatever the thing is that it considers pestilence. But its methods of doing so are…detestable. It’s just that it will do whatever he deems necessary. If it comes down to sacrificing a billion people, SCP-049 will have no moral qualms with doing so. The Plague Doctor is one of my favorite SCPs.

This is very interesting.
I saw one of the comments suggest a very interesting theory that the "pestilence" was rage. And I thought perhaps another theory would be that the "pestilence" was "mind development" or in the particular case of humans: "confidence in themselves to the point of arrogance".

Let's analyse 049's human targets. What they have in common is that they were rude and objected directly to 049, displaying obvious arrogance and, of course,rage.

049 thinks that "a great pandemic " has started after the scp foundation starts deeming him too dangerous. Is it because he thinks he is in the right and humans have devloped a strong sense of "self-righteousness" based on arrogance? They think that what 049 was doing was cruel, which leads to anger and hostility which might be what 049 wants to remove in all life in the first place.

Interestingly,049 has turned an orangutan into an infant like creature. Cruely aside first, it probably thought it had done a good thing by removing its capability of complex thought, restoring a twisted sense of "innocence" to it.

All humans...like all animals...are arrogant. Even cats, dogs are, selfish. I saw another comment saying(I think it's very possible)that the reason humans couldn't deduce what he was writing in his notebook was that it was never a language. It's the humans' arrogance ..an assumption that(which they might not even have realised) professionals can somehow keep finding out answers, solve otherworldly text by our own limited understanding of "language". It is a display of arrogance rooted in humanity,which might be what 049 wants to remove to make the world "cured" of a deep-rooted, widespread, subconscious pride.
