I almost gave up on this. With some 5C's (like the one I was trying to restore), you need to hold the power button and home button together past the first boot screen, keep holding both buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then let go of the power button, and yes make sure your iPhone 5C is connected to your computer at all times. Phone must be off to begin. This worked for me with an AFTERMARKET Lightning cable!!!!!. You don't need a freakin Apple Lightning cable, just use a chinese one and your FINE!. Thanks for the video anyways.

You forgot to mention that if someone (like me) buys a phone at a thrift shop that is still connected to an iCloud account they would have to know that account and password to get into the phone regardless.
