Paris 4K - The Princess Diana memorial at Tunnel du Pont de l’Alma and the Flame of Liberty

Princess Diana Memorial is not a memorial per se. Her tragic death on 31st August 1997 shocked the world.

The magnitude of the emotion it aroused was such that hundreds of mourners flocked to Place de l’Alma. This square is above the tunnel where she, Dodi Fayed, and their driver were killed in a car accident.

Here sits the Flame of Liberty, a monument the USA gave to France in 1989 in gratitude for the restoration work done on the Statue of Liberty in New York. Mourners started to lay flowers at the foot of the sculpture, turning it into a makeshift monument to her memory.
