My current situation is I moved into a rural area over Thanksgiving weekend. I have DSL 3mbps or T-Mobile home internet. I decided to go with t mobile. It's picking up 2-11mbps and if you know anything , that doesn't even stream Netflix on my smart TV hardly lol. I bought a 70db booster. I'm going to install it this weekend when it arrives. I hope it works! I am hoping to get enough so I can play my games and uploading stuff. Especially now that I've got a workshop. Wish me luck! It's not the same booster setup you have, but I hope it works!!

I love my DSL from Century. It’s far more reliable than Cox and I really haven’t had an issue with download or streaming.

@SilverCymbal
Thanks for your great content and analysis.
Do you have any updates for us now that you have had a year+ with your Fixed Cellular Internet setup?
My new house is in the middle of nowhere. I have Fiber Optic cable but it is constantly going out for days at a time. We are one of the last 20 houses on our connection. So, we are the last ones served or serviced when there is a problem.

I got T-mobile home internet about a year ago. At that time it worked great, 250mbps down, 30mbps up, much better than the comcast I had been using. In recent months though it has gotten much slower and sometimes is just intermittent. I have a suspicion that cell tower congestion might be an issue. Probably more people on T-mobiles 5G network now and they may need to add more cell tower capacity. I’m still mostly happy with it because as an addition to our cell service account it’s only $30/mo. which is probably impossible to beat. Thanks for the video.

The title states MEG, but in as much as there's a significant difference between a MEGA-BYTE and a MEGA-BIT. 400 MEG though more than 400 KB let alone 400 Kb may not, depending on one's purpose, be sufficent. I'm a video playing gamer. The area I live in has contract's they state are MEGA'S. But in actuallity, their plan's are actuall Mega-Bit's not MEGA-Byte's. Meaning one may think there getting something 8 times more. But actually getting something 8 times less. But advertiser's and even those that sell the various plan's in which MEGA is utilzed, don't know the vast difference in what they selling. MB vs Mb is eight times different. Much in the same way, as in the old day;s when KB was eight time that of Kb. One Mb is equal to that of 1,000 KB or 8,000 Kb. one MB is eight times that of one Mb.

So listen to the various sale's pitches, using your calulator before signing a contract that states it offer's more MEGA's than it's competion. And don't forget, that the actuall speed you will get is that measure recived in your router, the wifi portioin of your router which use to be a separted device, but now is include in the routher. is only capable of transmitting half of the total the router has available. And if having more than one device using the wifi. Devide the one half by the number of device.

Example you pay for and receive to the router 100 MB which when multiplied by 8 is 800 Mb. Thus using the ethernet jack's on the back of the router, which generally is four. All four of the various device's one can utilze will have access to 100 MB each. However, because the incorporation of the wifi being included rather than the old day's a separte device. It still only is able to transmit half of the total available to one device being utilzed. If there are more such as two cell phone, a TV, one of those new fancy refrigerator's, a security system. The total of device's being 5, cause the 100 the router receive's, sends to the wifi, which only get's half thus 50, divided by the 5 device's. Each device is only able to access 10 of the 50 of the 100 your paying for. The more device's one add's to their router's wifi ability. Mean's eventually one won't have sufficent enough to operate a particual device and will have to purchase a booster or increase their plan to a higher speed.

Thank you for sharing this. I react ( intolerant to electromagnetic frequencies ), so have to navigate a protected or remote living arrangement with ethernet connections. Vaccine compliant people will soon find themselves reacting the same way to high density wifi. With what you've shared here, I can see a way to continue my business from where ever I reside. 🌻

Yup step outside using your phone and network cell info app to see signal strength and just hunt around the house looking at the RSRP, RSRQ and RSSNR values. Remember to get on a ladder and check above roof height as well. Record the screen with audio notes to tell you where you are measuring the signal.
Good RSRP is greater than -87dBm ( all values are negative)
Good RSRQ is greater than -10dB ( all values are negative )
Good RSSNR is greater than 10dB. Great values are >20dB.

But in lots of areas, there are enough cell phones to cause the tower services to shift at different times of the day. Your signal could be ok in the morning and tank at lunch and 6 or 7pm. That's because internet via cellular has an obligation to cater first to phone services.

The problem with DSL speeds in the states has nothing to do with the technology itself and everything to do with how horribly unmaintained our phone lines are.

I have a simple question! This might be a stupid question, but I have no experience with this sort of stuff, so, like, these antennae are water/storm proof, right? You said it needed to be outside, but run in to your modem, well it can stay outside for storms and will still work in snow and stuff, right?
ALSO, just out of curiosity, do you have to worry about T-Mobile sometimes throttling your service? Not a deal killer, but I would just like to know! Thanks!!
