THE OLDEST GATE VALVE [Hawle Vulkan] | EN

The oldest gate valve model from Hawle is "Vulkan". It is the first Hawle resilient seated gate valve and was developed by Engelbert Hawle in 1958. Since its massive production in the 60-s, many of such valves have been installed on water supply networks across Austria [🇦🇹].

We have discovered this particular gate valve on a parking lot near the Austrian Traunsee. Since its installation in 1960, this gate valve has been in service for decades, and would have functioned even longer. However, it was recently excavated during the road works. 🚧

Besides the general good condition, the full functionality of the Vulkan gate valve is particularly impressive. It could be operated manually without any tools, such as a handwheel. And this, after almost 60 years underground!
