Nice! But all us true aficionados know it's really a song by the band Ednaswap. I think they took issue with it.. I'll explain: They did their moody rockier version with a fuzzed out solo in '97. Then a producer friend of theirs crossed paths with someone from Natalie's team or something like that. "She's an Australian soap actress from the show Neighbors. But she's launching a singing career. Do you know any songwriters or have an songs she could use?" He showed them the Ednaswap song, not telling the band and Natalie's team went for it. She did her bright poppy version. The big issue with it was that Ednaswap's Anne Preven and Scott Cutler, who wrote it, did not know anything until they heard Natalie's version on the radio. They had mixed feelings about it, but thought "At least we'll get some recognition, right?" But Natalie in all her interviews talked about songwriting (implying she wrote her own stuff) and didn't even mention their name once. No one ever knew who they were. The band broke up in '99, and their guitar player, Rusty Anderson, went on to an amazing longtime gig with Paul McCartney. But in interviews with Howard Stern Anne still seemed upset by it. I think all she wanted was a mention or credit, and never really got one, save for maybe deep in the liner notes of Natalie's cd. I wonder if it was even nominated for a song of the year Grammy award and if Anne or Scott would have been invited.. I don't think Natalie meant any ill will by it at all, she was a little naive and new to the biz, but still..
