Sony WH-1000XM5 vs Bose NC 700 REVIEW | Bose Still Better?

My nc700's anc mic shat the bed 1 months after warrantee period. Terrible static in my right ear.

I just got the Bose NC 700 HP today and for some reason, the mic does not work either on my phone(IOS) or my laptop(windows 11) anyone have a solution?

Only reason I chose Sony over Bose is that Bose is just too small for me, I have bigger ears and Bose just didn't fit me, Sony is just right.

Hmm my Bose must be faulty because the number one complaint I get is how terrible the call quality is in loud environments. It's the complete opposite of your demo!

that was really helpful I myself have both the sound comfort Bose and the Sony mx4 and everytime everyday I choose to use the Sony mx4 for various reasons for example the noise cancelation is way superior and the way to fits the head is more comfortable but after 3 years of use everyday my Sony are getting tired physically so I was searching to see what to buy either the new Bose ones or the new Sony ones and I think I've got my answer thank you for this awesome and on point review !!

Bose is hot garbage. The I have had xm3's, the 700 and the xm5. The AnC for Bose is sab par at best

I must say my personal experience with both was that the Bose are better at isolating my voice from others on calls. The Sony is great at background noises but not other human voices.

Sitting in the same room as someone else on a call the Bose was much better.

Audio quality I rate the Sonys out of the box but once you tweak the EQ the Bose has the win.

I find the Bose significantly more comfortable also.

Ended up returning the XM5’s! Not enough in it to make me upgrade.

Do not buy!! Break every 2years and ask me to pay full price to repair at 2y 1month

I have dropped Bose as a product because they are brittle, buggy and the electronics are so easily broken. This is just across the board with consumer grade bose products.

I think having slight noise come in is the safety feature as there are many accidents involve ANC

I am a sucker for great engineering especially because the industry seems to lack imagination these days. Even with the airpod max. Technically is is great but they fudged it up when, as usual, pigeon held the best of it and saved it only for the apple echo system. That is straight B.S!! With the 700s the fact that they are still competing today while the others have been upgrading and taking advantage of newer technologies. All the 700 hundreds needed was more optimized updates. Not to mention the fact that the design isn't just minimal but it is super efficient. Enough room for your ears while improve passive NC, they took way any unneeded space that was not necessary and even the headband is minimal.

Having now listened to the XM5s, as brilliant as they are, they still fail big time against the bose in one main area - you know it's there and the ANC grabs your attention when it's on. The bose simply does not get in the way. It just lowers everything and it's not just ANC. They intentionally reduce the key frequency ranges that effect you phytologically so it just leaves you with a tranquil space. I love them.

While this may have been a pretty put together review... why didnt you go over the significant price points ... i think that would have made a big difference in helping people choose headphones... especially with this inflation happening... people should know that up front.

OMG kids these days.. my sony m2 was better then bose at all.

These tests were really good, but if you have anybody actually talking on a distance of about 3-4 meters from you in the office, Sony won't save you. People's voices from around will interfere your microphone. It was very disappointing for me. I don't know what improved there.

I have issues with my XM5’s. I came from Bose QC 35’s and just wanted something new and better voice quality. My XM5’s turn off randomly and when I have a phone call, the other person can hear an echo unless I turn it down to like 20%. I watched this video to try and sway myself to grab the Bose but now I’m second guessing myself.

xms5s cups break easily. Mine just broke despite ultra careful use. they need to reinforce the swivel stem to the cup.

I could never get the XM5 to pair with Amazon Echo, even after hours on the phone with tech support, it just never "found" them. They said they'd have to escalate to engineering but only if I called Amazon and tried to get them to resolve the problem first, which they could not either. When Sony said I'd have to send them in for warranty repair, I gave up and returned them for a refund. For $400 they should pair with anything. Disappointing because I liked them otherwise.

With Bose rumored to be bringing out a new headphone, I took another listen to this review. I own both the 700 and XM5 and agree with everything you had to say. Two great headphones. I hope Bose can bring up their voice volume for calls, and won’t someone add water resistance to their high end headphones. After all, we walk around and travel with them. By the way, you are the very best at these kinds of comparisons.

How is it possible to have so bad voice when voice call?

Thanks for this review but mine cuts audio for short time and voice (from others people speaking near me) cancellation is very bad comparing with the Sony and Apple. Very disappointed by these Bose 700 ☹️

XM5’s aren’t sweat resistant so fuck them i bought them for the gym and now I have to return them

As a victim of the MX4's feedback screeching problem (google for it) I'll never buy Sony again. I've heard there are fixes for it, but I suspect those fixes are just postponing the next screeching episode. I value my hearing!

For those who know...I'm looking for the best sound quality (music quality most of all) and nc headphones between these 2, which one do you guys think is the better option?

I went to Best Buy today. I was sold on the Sony xm5 until I listened to the Bose . The Bose 700 sounded much better to me crisp. The xm5 noise canceling is good but that’s it sound quality Bose is unmatched.

Is Bose still better?

I like the better build quality of the Bose over the sonies, they both sound amazing but the anc of the Sony at the place I went to, to look for headphones, there was a pair of the Bose for $90 less than market value, so rather than spending $400 on the sonies or $380 on the Bose, I spent $300 on a open box pair of the Bose, there is some mild pressure on the ears from the Bose but not as bad as the mx5's from Sony, but they all sound great, the best deal for me was the Bose and a markdown.

No sidetone on the sony is a deal breaker for me. IMO it is not an enjoyable call experience when you can't hear your own voice.

Great review but I'm still confused. I need it in an environment there is a lot of traffic.

Do you recommend the Bose QC45 better than the XM5? I'm not a big fan of the 700 so I'm trying to decide between these two.

Great comparison. I want to buy Bose 700 instead of XM5, but i have only one fear - 700s were launched in 2019 and its 5 years already, they might release a new version soon (no rumours yet) while XM5 are 2022 model. Can someone clear this doubt ?
