This is a great video. How are you specifically moving your seat to create that open space?

I got a little confused. I'm supposed to put more weight on my inside seatbone when leg yielding, right?

I have a unique problem. Maybe. How do I fix my horse's attitude at shows? She is wonderful at home, but at shows she is disobedient, braced, stiff, high energy (a bomb about to explode), and bad ground manners. I've been disqualified two times because she rears, or won't go forward, etc. I had to take a break from showing because of this. My solution is to go on trail rides and new locations often, but maybe you have other ideas. Thanks!

Watching this helped me so much in my ride today . Made me realise I’ve been blocking with my seat especially in the laterals. As soon as stopped the whole ride was so much better 🤩.

Can you do a video on training the young 3 year old horse? Also perhaps the differences in Andalusians vs Warmbloods and how it affects how they learn.

Alicia, I have been a rider many years, but new to dressage. I am trying to sit in the small side of the banana. I can see how important that must be! But can you give some more instructions at to the proper way how to do this with out leaning over? Also, you spoke about a horse your friend was riding who can go backwards like a moonwalk at unwanted times!! I am currently starting my young mare. There are times when she sucks back, and though she is still going, she is not going forward cheerfully. I want to deal with that in the proper way! Your Mowgley videos have been super helpful! But I haven’t seen you needing to deal with this problem. I thank you so very much for all you are doing for all of us your eager learners!! Hope and pray you are better now from your coughing and such!!

My horse will leg yield to the right no problem but won’t go to the left as easily. Also I’ve tried to sit on the small part of the banana, but I don’t think I can .. or I’m doing it all wrong. :(

If the horse is sluggish to move the hind leg over from the leg, do you reinforce with the whip behind the leg? Or adjust the shoulder?

I am so thankful for this video as I have been struggling to do this leg yield for quite a few months ( even tho my horse could do this with her previous owner) . Your teaching to put ur weight on the side u want to go was my key factor in success. She did it beautifully . I need this for my test in the show ( first level) . It also worked for my cantering which I couldn’t keep either! I know these are basic, but after all my surgeries I became rather fearful in my riding! Thanks so very much for all ur tips in ur videos, which all help me. I do have lessons but the coach can’t tell me everything and can’t see it all either! Plus lessons are expensive! Ur visual s in teaching are so effective I can remember a lot more during my rides, (than others)! Thanks

Wonderful explanation. I've spent years being told to wrap the horse round my leg, control the shoulder ..never how! I just tried to copy what I saw and hoped it was right. The banana is king! The other big big breakthrough was the difference in changing my rein length and finding out that it held everything together. It wasnt loopy but that little extra gave me what I was looking for without hard hands..they can still be soft and yielding when shorter! Thank you.

You always make everything look so easy! Should I be working on straightness first before I ask the leg yield? And does my horse need to be through and on the bit before I ask leg yield? On my OTT, I want him to be more responsive to my leg, so would the leg yield be a good thing to do so he listens to my aids? Sorry for all the questions!

I’m a bit confused and I’ve watched this a few times! We’re you sitting to the right or left here? I couldn’t tell! I think
It’s to the left so the horse moves away from the pressure…is that right? Ie on the inside of the banana!!!

Your channel has helped my riding so much!!! When you can only get a few hours in the saddle, its so important to understand the breakdown of exactly what you are asking your horse to do and how. So many trainers skip over explaining what goes into the basic riding commands. It's crazy to me that you have riders going over jumps before learning that fundamental horsemanship that you get from Dressage. Thank you!!

I ride hunters yet I have a young horse whom has only been undersaddle for 5months.. he was an amish buggy horse as a 2 an 3 yrold.. yes you read that right .. who could be a bit hot but thanks to your videos an the training scale he's becoming very rideable... He is a lucky penny .. an so darn cute.. But the ground work b4 I get on really gets him in a good frame of mind .. an ready for lots of suppeling excerises.. Now on leg yield he'll do about 3 or four steps well keeping his hind end in line with his shoulders ...which I feel is very good .. an the rest of the way his hind usually falls a bit outside but I don't fuss too much if he gets me to the focal point.. is that a correct approach.. I feel that youl explained that as his strength improves an his suppleness get better his leg yields will become more correct through the movement..

I absolutely love how you explain the steps to riding to make it easier. Sitting inside the banana makes a HUGE difference. I use it all the time now. When I'm trying to bend him, i think BANANA!!. Leg yeild has helped my so much when my horse is naughty and reacting, going backwards, or cantering behind the bit.

Hi Alicia! It's Regi from DMA!! Would it be possible for you to make your videos without the background music? My sensory processing disorder is very severe and a lot of the music people put in their videos makes it impossible for me to watch them. You know how much I love you and I want to be able to see and enjoy every one of your videos so that I can learn. Thank you! See you soon. ❤️

I have a horse who is incredibly bright and learns very quickly but due to being a mare, she has her days where she refuses to give her feet for care or even lifting with the crop when I am trying to improve and lengthen her stride. My question is, do you have a video with a green horse from beginning to end on all leg yielding? Both from the ground and then saddle and presented that way so I can try, pause, and ride? I ask because this arab has potential for dressage and I plan on prepping her for it. Yet, I have always been a western rider. I need to see the first step all the way through.
