Great exercise thank you
ОтветитьMarco, was your crappy teacher good at finding the notes on the fretboard? We all learn from our mistakes. I too started playing the guitar, from the age of ten. All my guitar playing , comes by just listening to the music and picking out the keynotes. Thanks .
Ответитьah....OK...there is NO getting around MEMORIZATION PRACTICE< no grids, no patterns to look for other than dividing it in those 2 sections. Good exercises but thought i was gonna get a miracle clue.
ОтветитьI love that‼
Ответитьupper st to down string 7 frets down..5 frets up ..uxcept st G to st B.. 8 frets down .. 4 frets up
ОтветитьSimilar to another one I found earlier, but you break the neck into 2 sections. No matter what anyone comes up with,, it all boils down to repetition until you know the notes. Much as we would love to have a simple (no work) method to learn the neck of the guitar, it's usually going to take a fair bit of work to finally get it under your fingers. Well worth the time though because knowing the neck of your guitar opens so many doors.
ОтветитьIt’s nice of you to show us you failing. I’m not surprised that it’s so hard for me. Thanks 🙏
ОтветитьGreat technique.
ОтветитьThanks Marco. Maranatha!
ОтветитьThis is the easier way to remember to memorize the fretboard as a beginner who just learning guitar for about 50 days. I figure out each note in same string first then same notes in different strings after all I start to use metronome for A, B and go on at 60 bpm and increase everyday, now just about 20 days I can play any different note in 6 strings at 95 bpm.
BUT the only problem is if you point out any note in fretboard I still can't say it out in 1 sec
Excellent!!!!
Thank you!!!!
Say the note names out loud to reinforce
ОтветитьEXCELLENT! method!
ОтветитьI’d recommend CAGED. I struggled with all kinds of “tricks” until I finally revisited CAGED. Then I was able to see notes all over the fretboard without memorizing.
Ответить😂 that look
ОтветитьThank's
ОтветитьI'm sure he's faking the mistakes tbh 😅 although, I still appreciate it as it does show the reality of learning guitar. Also can't wait to try this! I've been playing almost 5 years now only really learning from tabs. I'm deciding to start to learn music theory but I now know how essential it is to know the notes of the fretboard off by heart
ОтветитьLike practicing anything in music, slow it down to where you can hit all the notes then gradually increase speed.
ОтветитьI really love this exercise! Thanks Marco. after doing it a few times, may I suggest a few things:
Start with the E: very easy to memorize and it is the basis for most other counting off on the fretboard (for me)
After a while I broke down the exercise into two sections (the top three strings; the bottom three strings) then pasted them together.
easier for me to remember numbers so I repeated these fret numbers while doing:
A= 5 0 7 2 10 5
B= 7 2 9 4 0 7
C= 8 3 10 5 1 8
D=10 5 0 7 3 10
E= 0 7 2 9 5 0
F= 1 8 3 10 6 1
G= 3 10 5 0 8 3
Not as hard as one would think remembering that both high and low E string are the same (and most people know them already) so you only need to remember FOUR numbers per note. Of course when it is "0" I hit both the "open" and "12", (and I also extend up into the higher frets).
I verify by using the "Battle Ends And Down Goes Charlie's Father" method. If you haven't done this lesson Marco you should. You're a great teacher.
I remember all notes E and A strings and I use octaves to find rest and sometimes I use scales to find notes but I guess it's not efficient at all.
ОтветитьVery good Marco but I have a question. It is a question I seem to have to ask with all the videos about "Memorizing" the fretboard. To say I have memorized it, then if someone says, for example String 4 (D string) fret 8 I must respond immediately A# (or Bb). I can't. If someone said "Find all the A#'s" I could use the system . If I am on the D string fret 8 I can use the system to find A# on the 5th and 3rd strings quite easily, but if I am on the D string 8th fret and I want to find say the closest F# I can't. So I will not have memorized the fretboard. What I have done will to have learned another method how to negotiate the Fretboard.
ОтветитьLove your channel...
ОтветитьDude, I'm using this exercise having seen it somewhere else about 2 weeks ago. It is the best method I've come across. Such a fantastic daily still drill. Totally recommended.
ОтветитьThis is genius i learned how to memories notes and i learned the F note
ОтветитьWell done - good lesson - also showing the level of difficulty even for someone such as yourself. Thanks
ОтветитьIt is a great exercise! I've learned in the same way the notes on the fretboard but also moved from the high E to the low E string - in this video you just go from low E to high E. Also, I've changed the note when I turned back from high E to low. If you are using metronome and keep drilling this exercise, you are going to memorize the notes on the fretboard, guaranteed!
ОтветитьAn easier way to memorize is to remember that the difference goes 7-5-7-4-5 going from low to high so take F= 1on Low E, 8 on A =7; 8 to 3 on D = 5; 3 to 10 on g = 7; 10 to 6 on B = 4; 6 to 1 on high e = 5 so whatever note you start on with the low e add 7 for the a string and so on with the 7-5-7-4-5 but if u start C and go high to low the pattern is 5-7-5-4-7 so c would be 8 on low e; 3 on a = 5: 3 to 10 on d = 7; 10 to 5 on g = 5; 5 to 1 on b = 4; 1 to 8 on high e = 7 just remember which pattern up or down depending on where u start and the next string will be correct low to high 7-5-7-4-5 or high to low 5-7-5-4-7 this may sound confusing but walk through it once and you will see
Ответитьeven guitar gods make mistakes. thank you so much.. it expands of the exercise I was taught earlier in my guitar life
Ответитьgoing up fret+7 going down fret-5 (exception when u cross the b string)
ОтветитьBrilliant!
ОтветитьGreat lesson Marco... Thank you sir.
ОтветитьI get so mad and frustrated when I try to record something cuz I do a lot of mistakes but seeing Marco failing I got kinda motivated...If Marco do mistakes I shouldn't expect to much from me
ОтветитьEven the guitarmaster does mistake,its kinda soothing. Thank you for helpfull videos!
ОтветитьMarco, i greatly appreciate your genuine, frank and real tutorial... More power to you... Your great
ОтветитьAs soon as you use a metronome you loose me I cannot stand the metronome, hate hate hate it , but I know you mean well and I’m sure your a nice person
Ответитьthis troubles me for a long time :)
ОтветитьSalute =)
ОтветитьI like seeing that failing is going to be something very prominent lol
ОтветитьAmazing, this is awesome, i was looking for something like this..thank you for sharing!
ОтветитьNice Guitar! may i ask what brand is ?
ОтветитьLove this exercise. So many videos are titled how to learn the fretboard and all they do is show you how to identify notes on a particular string by talking about intervals. In the end it comes down to repetition so that your hand does it automatically in a split second.
Learners don't get intimated. Essentially it's 120 note positions. Most people can do it quite easily but like everything it takes work and practice. The more you work and practice the quicker you will get there. Always bear in mind the brain is a learning machine. I think it actually learns better from mistakes than when you get it right so never be afraid to make mistakes. You are training your ear and your eyes as you are going along.
I just tried this did..really poor at first now it's aghhh .still not great. I did realize something that I should of noticed years ago. The first dot
after the two dots is the same as the first dot at the headstock. Good to know only took like 50 years
I've played the guitar for 10s of thousands of hours.. Many different styles. I have only watched 1/2 of the video. I am going to try it cold..In my head I know it will be an amazing performance. NOT SO.. Point is well taken. I am totally cheating. I already did this partially mentally..
There will only be 22 Frets on the average guitar . My strat copy has only 22. I had a duh momrnt.. I already know that my E string Electric only has does not have 24 frets.(2 octaves..24 semi tones)
Electrics have only 22 Frets..Your mentor picked the hardest note. But actually one the best notes too.
A LITTLE THOUGHT .This actually is very eye opening. The A string the same. It would need 24 frets..
D to D same.. Pretty much note than 2 octaves on any string on a 22 fret guitar. So I mentally cut to the chase.. The middle of the octave is 3 full tones or the tritone or the flatted fifth I'll do this in the key of C first.. Whole tones ... C to D D to E E to Gb. G is the five chord of C. Gb- Ab Ab-Bb Bb-C.
We just proved that the tritone splits the octave. So in just about a minute..I see that s 22 string guitar has no three octave notes. Looking at 22 notes or semitones on a piano is 12 plus about 9frets.
I don't think it is possible to have any note repeated more thantimed on a string. So 12times would be the max and it will be equal or lower than that.
I loved the fact that you showed your mistakes openly and didn't edited them out.fantastic lessons..keep em coming ❤
ОтветитьMake a video on finger exercise plz...
ОтветитьLovely... There are 100s of ways in which you can memorize the fretboard. This concept is certainly in my Top 5s.
ОтветитьMarco. Thank you so much. This totally helps me. Very grateful.
ОтветитьI’ve been messing around and just trying to ‘get by’ here, I’ve tried all the methods with the patterns, gimmicks etc...
I finally wrote me up 7 charts A thru D on separate pages. I’m doing each one with a metronome like you said and it’s finally working!
Thanks for this, I can’t wait until I’m finished so I get this monkey off my back 😆
Thank you sir!
