Before I ever heard this song, I had no idea who Henry Lee was, except that it was a nice sounding name that fit good the atmosphere of the song.
Then I googled Henry Lee without no special expectations, but I must admit that there were things that I unconsciously didn't expect to find in the results, like a serial killer for exemple !
I never really Saw a clear relationship between the cruel Serial Killer and this song. It's even more difficult in this, that topic death is brought out in a metaphorical way, which makes it even less identify for non-native english speakers.
And then, I ended UP discovering Yesterday, that the song was actually an adaptation of on old folk american song "Young Hunting-Henry Lee", which tells the story of a woman who kills her beloved to keep him by her.
It'd bé more the story of Dolorès Claiborne, than the if the sadly famous killer Henry Lee.

My sympathy to poor Henry.
