First there were CVTs, now there are CVGs (Continuously Variable Genders). When will this madness stop?!

ОтветитьI once test drove a Ford 500 for my sister and thought the CVT was actually quite nice. It was like a very smooth automatic that never locked the torque converter. I went years thinking people were overreacting about CVTs... until driving my niece's Nissan Sentra 1k miles when she moved.. good lord--if that's what most CVTs are like, people are honestly too KIND about them, and Ford deserves monumental credit for making a smooth one.
Nissan sure makes an unrefined engine and horrible seats, too. The only good about that car IMO were its relative spaciousness and great gas mileage.

ОтветитьKeep in fighting guys but Toyotas CVT are pretty durable. The one in my cars been there for 8 years, and perhaps over 200k miles, without any oil change 💀 . Still going strong, although will admit there is a little noticeable issue sometimes. The car will jerk a little when slowly accelerating from 10mph to above. But other than that, its still the daily driver without any issues

ОтветитьMy mitsubishi has one of these, and with turbo and neutral shifting (I rev up in neutral then gear into cvt), I'm faster than 99% of the drivers out there. Heck, I can spin out my tires and I'm using an automatic.

ОтветитьThese have used on snowmobiles for 100yrs. Simple and reliable and easy to swap a belt on the rare instances they break. Amd belts are cheap. Most all snowmobilers usually keep a spare belt under the hood.
