This video is awesome and really brings me back. My friend and I loved hacking our Xboxes back in the day. We did the same softmod and solder mod. We also got 2.4ghz wireless controllers from a third party manufacturer. We opened up the receiver dongles and wired them to the internal control connectors with a relay so you could have an integrated wireless controller or use the plugged in wired one.

According to a mod article I found it can be the greatest hits version of splinter cell, other softmod games do need to be black label non greatest hits.

I have a copy of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell for the original Xbox that I bought on Amazon and the DVD is a Platinum Hits but the case is original. Funny enough, I was still able to do the softmod using that game. For 007 Agent Under Fire it has to be a SPECIFIC Platinum Hits version if you have a Platinum Hits and not the original copy.

I got an original Xbox myself last Christmas. The dash was out of date and the machine info said it was produced in October/November 2002. The dash version I did have I narrowed down to being released sometime in 2003. So it had sat in a cupboard untouched for 19 years and was in fantastic shape as a result. After a deep clean it looked brand new. No scuffs on the Xbox logo on either the Duke or the console itself. I'd never really played on an Xbox before and I am really enjoying the games I do have. Not to mention playing the occasional match through Insignia which is the main reason I wanted one.

I didn't get the original Xbox on launch day. I got mine back in 2002 or 2003. mine was the bundle that came with Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT 2002. and it didn't have the Duke controller even though I ironically did like that controller. one of the reasons I even wanted that console was for Panzer Dragoon. also Shenmue II was exclusive to the Xbox

I did not follow that at all……it was vague…….missed out 99% of the information you would need to do this. Ok if you all ready know what to do.

My xbox has basically everything you showcased. Amazing. I have an external chip with dip switches. Internally i have an 80gb hdd. My dashboard reads evolution x and has homer drooling over unsigned code.

I'm sold on the ability to play original Xbox titles. Even in 2021 I still can't play many original Xbox titles. Burnout 3 is buggy, but playable. I've got my eye on a version 1.1 system with a bad IDE cable, I have a spare cable. I think it's worth the $15.

my first ever xbox was from flea market, and was unleashx modded, but i never knew , i assumed that was the default original microsoft,(sony fanboy here), didn't have any original game, so i put the console in storage.Years later i realize what it was,i admit even now the only game i like and play on that xbox classic is Halo.

This is completely your choice whether you do this or not, but I highly recommend it. Inside the system there is something known as the "Clock Capacitor". As the name suggests, its an electrolytic capacitor that stores the date and time. In most cases, these capacitors can leak all over your motherboard and can cause fatal damage. Removing the capacitor won't break your Xbox, it will just no longer store the date and time. As far as i'm aware, you can get kits that allow you to solder coin battery holders to where the capacitor used to be so you can store the D&T if you want to.

Can you play games from the Hdd via a disc image, or do u need to upload from a disc every time

Softmodding + adding a 2TB HDD will make the DVD drive unusable in any mod menu that sees and uses it. The only thing the DVD drive is then good for is booting up the system with a disk already in the drive.

Yes you read that correctly, the DVD drive becomes totally useless for copying, It won't even read official xbox games unless you boot the system with the game already in the drive.
