Tito committed some awful crimes.  However, I know one who fled Yugoslavia soon after Tito died said:  " The only one who could keep that together      was Tito.  WIth him dead?  Its time to run because its about to get bloody "

They were right in that

In Slovenia, you can stay a villa once owned by Tito, the larger-than-life dictator. You can even sleep in his bed:

Tito... Leader of most successful anti fascist movement in Europe. Great man and a true hero. This is how he will be remembered ;)

I think Vila Bled has many beautiful spots to show, that aren't as political... Why focus on the past when you can show the best of present? After all, Vila Bled has a history before Tito.

Hm, OK. Let's say he was a Dictator. How come people love him 40 years after his death?! Tell me one dictator in history that is still beloved by the general population?! I cannot pick two presidents in former Yugoslavia that are liked more than 2 years.

I don't care if he was a dictator or not. He was the living history of the Balkans for over 35 years and we must preserve everything that was built or designed back then and give it a new life. And the same happens with the right wing tyrants or autocrats. We have no time, no money, no enough people no will to destroy our countries and their better or worse heritage for what some liberals outside Europe might think. European countries are not a happy flappy parlamentarian regimes with barely no history like the United States. We must deal with ALL parts of our history, dignfied it and extract a positive conclusion of it in order to reconciliate ourselves with the land in which we live and the work and heritage left by our ancestors no matter if we like it or not. With no exceptions. Communism, Fascism or Nazism are parts of the history of Europe and we must understand and phisically preserve that past in order to understand ourselves in the future and try to avoid the same mistakes commited in the Past. And the Tabula Rasa in a Continent of 30.000 years of History don't bring us anywhere. If we do such thing we will become a society like the United States; nothing but McDonalds and Wall Mart stores for impulsive people who don't think in anything but free and quick money. And it would be a pity for Europe to finish that way.
