The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV is a new addition to the Blazer family, and it is Chevy's entry into the electric SUV market. The Blazer EV is not a gas-powered Blazer fitted with an EV propulsion system, but an all-new model with its own distinct body and interior design. It will be offered in four trims, with the mid-range 2LT and RS models hitting the market first in summer 2023, followed by the top-spec SS trim and the lowest-priced 1LT trim in early 2024.

The Blazer EV uses General Motors' Ultium battery technology, and the model with the most range will be the RS trim, which Chevy claims will go about 320 miles on a single charge. The SS trim offers 557 horsepower, and is said to be capable of hitting 60 mph in less than four seconds. The SS trim is tailor-made to take on the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Tesla Model Y Performance.

The Blazer EV is available in four trims, 1LT, 2LT, RS and SS, each with its own set of features and specifications. The SS trim comes exclusively with a 557-hp electric powertrain with standard all-wheel drive. The 1LT is available only in a front-wheel drive arrangement, while 2LT models can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive. Curiously, the RS model comes standard with either front- or rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive optional.

The Blazer EV is strictly a two-row affair, and the interior design is sporty with a two-tone black-and-red color scheme in the RS and SS trims. There is adequate leg room in both rows, but headroom can be lacking in some trims. All models come with a large 17.7-inch infotainment display that is canted slightly towards the driver and framed on the left and the bottom by physical controls for frequently used functions.

Fuel economy ratings for the Blazer EV have not been released yet, and likely won't be until closer to the SUV's on-sale date in the summer of 2023. When we get a chance to test the Blazer EV for ourselves, we'll take it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with test results and observed driving range. The Blazer EV will be capable of charging on a DC fast charger and Chevrolet says it can charge at up to 190 kW and add about 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Overall, the Chevy Blazer EV is an exciting addition to the Blazer family, and it offers a great combination of performance and range. The SS trim offers great performance and is tailor-made to take on the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Tesla Model Y Performance. The RS trim offers the best range and comes with a good set of features. With a summer 2023 release date, it won't be long until we get to see the Blazer EV in action on the road.
