Why not Knight to E6 - if the castle takes pawn, you pin it and take the rook.I feel like your way make it was more complicated, thereby making it risky.

The reason that puzzle won first prize is that stockfish did not existed, and could not refute all the idea. Now it can, and unfortunately this study is flawed :( I will let you check it why

So I threw this in stockfish and it claims that after Kc1 it's not actually solved, but rather gives BOTH Rc2+ and Kh7 to save the game 2b4k/5P2/8/5N2/8/8/r7/2K5 b - - 0 1

How did they compose this?
It seems unreasonably hard.

I am not surprised it won first place. When people talk about 'the beauty of chess', I believe people think, "it's just a board game, what are you talking about"? the above puzzle is a perfect example of that beauty.

I always knew there was a way to mate with this material and that means with the opponents flag down you can claim the win. Nice!

When you moved the white king to C1, after that you checked the white king with black rook to A1……, but I think there is an overlooked check here, black rook to C2….. am I right?

I thought I was good at chess....
