Porsche Cayman GT4 RS on road review. This or the 992 GT3?

Well.. one has to wonder... Which car that i can't afford is better than the other car that i can't afford..
But at least we got Harry's honest reviews so we can dream of these incredible cars

Best current Porsche - easily.

I own one of these (also yellow, coincidentally) and have been daily driving it. The damn thing is perfect, IMO. Modern but old-school. I cannot imagine a more exciting car. Even a two mile trip to the grocery store is an adventure and puts a huge smile on your face. And then, when you can get an open road, and you run all the way up and down the rev range…. Holy mother. But you also can drive it docilely with all the performance settings off and just cruise (AND listen to podcasts… I do it often with no issue). If anyone thinks this car is too hard, it isn’t. It’s just the driver who’s too soft! Lol 😅

Wow, that sound! This is the reason why I will never find enthusiasm for electric sportscars. They can be how fast and competent they like, but without real sound they don't give me any feelings.

Where did you get the information about Porsche producing 7000 GT4 RS cars?
I’m in Canada and we’ve only had tiny amounts…
So far it feels more like 3000-4000 units of GT4 RS and RS Spyders combined.

Harry, miss the old weighing action of past videos. Particularly for cars like this. So you document how much it actually weights and how much fuel there is.

The GT4 RS is deeply flawed in relation to its potential uses. It is WAY TOO LOUD to enjoy any sort of comfortable road trip - you would be deaf and exhausted on arrival at your destination. The sources of some of the interior noise are the air scoops which are particularly stupid because they create rear view blind spots So is it purely a track car? Well yes, but in the UK I am pretty sure it WOULD NOT PASS the ever present noise checks. For example Goodwood demands 105 DB maximum (tested at three quarters of maximum revs; i.e. 6,750 for this car!) and many days are less than that. The Michelin Cup 2's are great for dry tracks but lethal in any sort of even damp conditions, so useless for everyday road trips.
This is just a "trophy" car. Ridiculous as a road car unless you really want to lose your licence and who wants to risk a bump on a track day in a £130k missile?
Of course I'd love one but only for 6 months then sell on for a profit.
BTW Harry I think the weight is 1415 Kgs not 1,000 less.

I found the 991.2 GT3RS too raw for me and very irritating as a road car. Great on track but a little slow if you are comparing to proper super car power.

I think the car you want is the upcoming boxster spyder rs harry. Basically the same car but with a softer more road focused setup and perhaps a manual too, who knows

You aren't using the door pull correctly btw.

You pull using your opposite hand, not the one closest to you. If your on the left, you use your right hand, reaching across your body for leverage to pull the door open. Vice versa.

It really sucks that by the time I will be able to purchase a GT4 new, they will be discontinued and move to electric... Porsche is making a huge mistake getting rid of these brilliant driver's cars. electric just doesn't have the soul. Make the SUVs and Panamera electric but leave the sports cars alone!!!

They are effectively selling you a full HiFi version of that glorious 4.0 9krpm soundtrack.

I bet that the grip issues in the wet are 80% due to the 50% harder springrates, and only 20% due to the Cup2 being limited in damp conditions.

But still, that soundtrack is o t h e r w o r l d l y.

It's so hard to decide these days.

Perhaps it's best to go with a base-ish 718 as
a daily, and use the price difference to build a scruffy 996 with an aftermarket Close-ratio box, Recaros & Öhlins dampers for weekend fun.

Love the sound at 9000 RPM, absolutely glorious, nothing beats naturally aspirated in sound.

It sounds wonderful, must be epic on track.

re. Harry's decibel meter app: I wonder how good it is, because since forever the screenshots always show a lower reading visually with the needle than the upper right in numbers. Numbers: 83db, needle is at sth like 68db.

Stone chips, cracked rear screen, loose intake ducts and a check engine light - doesn't inspire much confidence for £134k!

You seem to be off with the stated weight. You state twice that it only weighs 415 kilograms you seem to be under stating the weight by 1000kg.

What was that Check Engine Light in the end? Maybe a bit too much greasiness on the road for it?

Hi, professional concert sound engineer here. 110dBA is LOUD, much louder than I typically mix a rock band (usually aiming at 99-100dbA and peaking at 103-105). Shocking, but also cool? The note of the intake is quite nice.
