Death stranding was the only unique game in 10 years
ОтветитьMy 2 objections to this were the returnal and rachet and clank rift apart
ОтветитьBlame the players not the developers. Game of the decade for 80% of players is still using a combat system that barely worked in 2009. Why would developers ever go the extra mile when that's all it takes to become best game of all time?
ОтветитьQuality content subbed
ОтветитьI think it would be hard for Rockstar to develop next gen mission type and not become RPG at the same time
ОтветитьI remember upping the resolution on Half Life to 800x600 . First time it was an option for graphics for me. Brother and I just sat there staring at boxes and wall tiles for 10 minutes "Jesus look how clear it looks, that's almost like a photo"
I wish kids today could have that immediate real-time leap from crappy old graphics to "whaaaat the fuuuuuck" graphics
Skyrim was next gen
ОтветитьElden Ring is next-gen gameplay
ОтветитьFair question.
Baldur's Gate 3 gave me some hope, at least. I can't wait to see the next games Larian Studios will make.
this tells you how great 2000s gaming technology was
ОтветитьThis 1 of the moments of rarity where I can't express the comment enough but YT needs to give me a 2 thumbs up button cuz tha relativity IC this video most DEF having me hot that button
ОтветитьThe next big thing in gaming might be AI. Especially for more in-depth NPC's, even the random NPC's that populate the game. You can talk in real life through a mic and talk to an NPC. Or AI that 'knows' what you prefare more and the game will provide it. The first steps are already taken, the video's about it are very intresting.
ОтветитьI have to kind of disagree with most statements here.
It's simply not going to fly to look at games with a heavy technical limitation of the past and now feel like: genres do not change anymore!
Changes are easy to come by, when the possibilities are very very open and unexplored.
I do think, that we kind of are a bit stuck here but I also see that simply a lot of path have been explored and methods and systems evolved that just work and are much closer to the ideal way.
That does not mean there is no room anymore, but finding a loophole here requires simply a lot of a lucky streak.
I can easily ask you: what would be a new gen gameplay be like? Any ideas that have not been already existing or done before?
When you look at strategic games, there is tons of variations out there, if these do not count as advancements or change . .then what does?
BG3 for example gave players a polish and freedom that simply was forgotten forever, mostly because greed sees no value in optional content. But technically, games of the past could offer more freedom here, but it was also a lot simpler to make those things happen.
I think what you are looking for is sadly just a bubble or not really something that can be achieved in a coordinated and planned way.
I do see issues with the modern gaming landscape but most of these simply stem from the greed economy we live in. Big companies being filled with suits that have no interest in making something good, and only care for porfits. Companies like that are the norm, and these sap any creative freedom and as such, hinder proper evolution. But even without that, the parts you are talking about would still not come to be. It would be simply an accident if such a thing came to pass. And that is fine.
In games
Ответитьthis guy sounds like snot from american dad
ОтветитьHonestly, the only game that felt next gen to me was Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart.
Ответитьhard to understand
Ответитьultrakill
ОтветитьDue to an agreement with Nintendo, get ready for Super Mario Brothers to arrive on your next gen system! Now with better pacing and no graphic farts! Joking, joking! I hope no one got excited!😂
But this is what we really expect now. Oh look! Skyrim remastered for the 30th time! OooOoOooOOoo! Look! Morrowind! Wow! I gotta buy Xbox series x for Cyberpunk 2077 DLC! Truly next gen! 😂
I completely agree with your thoughts on games defining genres that overlap. Your understanding of how gamers don't want to play with new mechanics is interesting. As someone who learned some programming and built a few basic websites its not easy. Still I cant help but wonder where games would we be today if we gave it our all :)
ОтветитьI think the closest we ever got to current gen concept of next gen gameplay was probably the more refined VR experiences like halflife alyx, and RE7, etc
ОтветитьThis is a big problem in the RTS space too. RTS needs more realism in its gameplay to grow its audience, but it's shrunk so much as a genre that only those that love the highly abstract 90s gameplay are left. Nobody's calling for what they don't know they want.
Ответитьexcellent video! my dream is that ai has some sort of implementation in our interactions with npcs! thats the next step to me! :O
ОтветитьMy dude never played tears of the kingdom, the last gen game that feels next gen, and also metal gear solid v... Those games have changed and improved a lot, must have been a lot of other examples.
ОтветитьI consider that Half-Life Alyx has next-gen gameplay
ОтветитьI am really bored of indies as well, though. Of all these retro graphics games that look deliberately underwhelming, and also this seeming superiority complex behind it all, like you just aren't openminded enough to enjoy the "art" of these 2-dimensional pixels. Look, you're right, I'm sure the gameplay is fun, but it's just not what I want.
ОтветитьThe very first time I experienced "next gen" was when playing Dead Rising for the first time. Seeing such detailed shopping mail with so many zombies in one screen was very new to me at that time since it was not possible during the previous gen games
ОтветитьHey DX, is it possible you can provide a link to that art of Lucia? Its probably the only art of her that actually looks good.
Ответитьoutro song?
ОтветитьHonestly, I think gaming has stopped doing anything other than looking prettier since the latter half lf the 7th gen. With the attempts to justify a $70 price for games that don't feel different in any way other than having a few more polygons has proven a bit exhausting. You're absolutely right that people need to get out of their own bubbles and play something other than the slop from the biggest of all publishers (even though I wish more of them were available to me as a GOG user), but I find myself wishing that developers and publishers put more effort into something that could really change the way we look at games, a half-life for the current generation, if only because we've mostly capped the reach of games if they're all going to be the same three or four genres repeated ad nauseum.
ОтветитьIt sounds like game standards rose to fast. More specifically, the standards and expectations of a triple A game. Budgets for these games ballooned to the point where making the game is considered risk taking.
Ответитьvery interesting points!
I don't know if we'll get completely new innovation until VR gets as good as fiction presents it.
BTW, your channel randomly appeared in the algorithm, but I've been very impressed with the few vids of yours I've watched now. You've earned another subscriber!
alright, now im curious, what is the end credits music? shazam cant seem to figure out that one
ОтветитьIn american RPGs, or specifically Bethesda RPGs, you play as a stereotypical role;
in european RPGs, you play as a character, with pesonalities and background stories.
The latter feels more immersive to me.
IMO, next gen gaming will come with AR/VR. We just are not utilizing our technology for anything to advance us.
ОтветитьCyberpunk is also outdated
Ответитьtoo bad nemesis system was patented. damn you WB
ОтветитьI'm having a lot of fun with Wayfinder
ОтветитьComing back to this video and hearing tbe points more effectively. I think 1 studio did try to change the way we "play" games. EA or rather its division that makes Battlefield.
In battfield 4, there was set pieces that would cause the collapse of a building. The fall of this aircraft. A tornado, a tsunami. But when the actual next generation Battlefield released, Battlefield 1. The game feature desolation, which was the players' collective ability to change the map. What for one moment was a strong point. Such as a building or a forest would become. Rubble that changed how the 2 forces navigated portions of the map. The same vantage points would become crawling grounds. For sniping or trenches for resupplying and maintaining vehicles. A fallen blimp became a legitmate structure where you could expect to get into fire fights. A giant train would divide the map severely weakening 1 team. A sand storm would roll in turning battlefield essentially into call of duty. Running around trying to get kills in with low visibility and removing snipers for like 5-8minutes.
THAT was the only level of innovation we got with the PS4. The developers of battlefield considered the power of the PS4 and Xbox 1. As a means to implement more realism in the game via desolation. To similate how a small village or a citadel would be destroyed in times of war to create new immersive gameplay opportunities. Gameplay that matched the better, graphics, and sound of battlefield 1. Compared to the last entry on 360 and Ps3 BF4.
As old as this video is at this point it is likely this has already been said and will also likely not get read, but I have to say it anyway:
How did you not think of VR before or while scripting this video?
Sure, it's cost restrictive for now to get into, and it's still in its teething phase for figuring out what to do with it. But it IS the "next gen gamplay" you're looking for.
GTA 6 will suck because Rockstar went woke.
ОтветитьI mean how much can you really innovate on swinging a sword or shooting a gun?
ОтветитьDX I agree with all of this however I have to say this all becomes mute when you see the gaming industry as the empire it is. The people in charge have made it and think they dont need to improve thats why we dont get advancements only petty remakes and remasters. Like film its at a dead end because no one new is allowed in the castle.
ОтветитьI'm gonna have to disagree that Quake's gameplay is derivative of Doom's. Between its truly 3D nature and all the differences that come with that, its unique movement tech, the powerups, and its multiplayer, Quake doesn't actually have much in common with Doom other than its structure, progression loop, and FPS-ness.
ОтветитьThis is why, despite it's story flaws, death stranding was one of the best games ever.
Ответить
