Great test. Horrible results.
ОтветитьFor advertised these are junk as they state. I never expected anything special. But given price maybe can use as a plinker justifiably like Harris' face lol😅
ОтветитьMost of the Magtech I've shot was their semi jacketed hollow point/semi jacketed soft point .357 and .44 magnum. I've never run it over a chrono but it has always felt significantly stronger than other "range ammo" options in the same price range and would probably work well enough for hunting or trail defense use. I've always been curious how good or bad their "defensive" ammo was and this doesn't bode well for that. Hopefully you'll test more of it, including the SJHP and SJSP stuff in the future.
ОтветитьAnother great video 👍
Ответить🇦🇺😎👍Hey brother I just back from the range doing a Tools & Targets 🇺🇸🏁… I’m sure you were there in spirit😉👍🏁
ОтветитьIt looked like it was getting close to expanding.
Might be useable in a carbine.
🇦🇺😎👍Gee that stuff is moving….The Magtech deeep penetrators ….go the carbine🏁….Thankyou Sir
ОтветитьWould be interesting to see a test of the magtech 115gr hollow points.
Ответитьkeep Win.WB HPs/CDuty/FPFMJ😴💨/underwoods in tape coded extd mags 💨🚘🐗🐻,fpfmj is like a balanced fmj good stuff especially in .40
ОтветитьAny time you move away from 115 & 124 gr. there seems to be problems of some sort.
Ответить9mm reloaded properly can achieve well over 1400fps in a 4'' barrel. However, as a factory loading the velocities seen aren't bad, but the bullet is too hard to properly expand. In my experience projectile performance in Magtech ammo is questionable more often than not and velocity is generally on the slow side of what a cartridge is capable of.
ОтветитьI can't say that I would ever expect expansion from a jacketed soft point semi-auto bullet. You can get deformation and even mushrooming of a semi-jacketed revolver bullet, but without a hollow cavity to apply pressure to the inside of the jacket, the jacket petals will simply not open.

ОтветитьHey Tools, I know you like the 10mm, have you tested the Buffalo Bore hard cast, to see how deep it penetrates in gel?
Ответить👍👍
Ответитьthe softer lead would open up, too much tin in the mix. Test it in the carbine.
ОтветитьExcellent video! Magtech ammo has been the bane of my existence when it came to anything other than range ammo. I've tried various bullet weights and designs in revolvers and semi auto handguns for many years and the one thing consistent about Magtech, in my experience at least, was its inconsistency. Some .357 Magnum ammo for example, from Magtech, was self-defense ready while three or four boxes into a case was barely good enough to qualify as practice/range ammo. As for their 9 Minimal loading(s) I'd just as soon carry a bag of smooth, flat, river rocks and a homemade slingshot or an axe handle for personal/home protection. I'm one of those Old Goobers that still expects stuff to work the way it is supposed/advertised to and Magtech just does not do that for me. Too me, it's just range ammo that provides me with brass for reloading purposes. Take care and keep up the great work you do.
ОтветитьI saw Magtech and thought, "ah, range ammo". I do enjoy the budget "defense" ammo videos, especially with something like 9mm, b/c there are so many of them. The most sound of the budget carry rounds seem to be WWB and R-UMC, no reason to go w/anything else unless you do want something spicy.
ОтветитьCompact pistol shallow penetration and some or none mushroom..
I carry FMJ . Want to plow thorough the ” field” and get result’s even behind wall/car body etc. In ⚖️no cop killer’s used. Basic + p+ ball
Range ammunition
ОтветитьYep, the lead is way too hard. At that velocity and low grain they should have been pancaked.
ОтветитьKind of a failure on these ones.
ОтветитьCant wait to see this in a carbine test
ОтветитьLoud but not too proud. 😆
I have my doubts that it would do any better out of a carbine. 🤷♂️
Their FMJs work just fine for plinking ammo, tho 😄
Run that through a carbine and let's see what you come up with.
Glad I watched the whole video rather than hopping off and buying based on velocity. (It happens)
Still beats the hell outta 380 and 115 FMJ. Hell, the muzzle report would cause a lotta folks to reconsider their path/action
Hi. I was wondering what 9mm ammo you run in your carry? Thanks for the videos. My favorite channel
Ответитьso loud it's popping the tent upwards
ОтветитьMeat and bones will tell the story on any ammo. Paul Harrell targets. Gel is an expectation of performance. When. Hits bones they get crazy.
ОтветитьBritish SAS had a 95 grain jacketed soft point made by federal back in the '80s
ОтветитьIt would be interesting to see if shooting out of a 16" carbine could get enough velocity to force it to mushroom
ОтветитьYou might have just found a new BEAR LOAD!
ОтветитьI bought a couple boxes at my local shop. It is very loud. Its got a crack to it. It cycles great.
ОтветитьAs a hunter JSP is a devastating rd they just haven’t mastered it in pistol rds With JSP you get way better damage and deeper penetration any deer hunter will tell u that. It’s like a bomb goes off when it expands like it supposed to. The Geneva Convention banned SP it was to inhumane. No chance to survive turned your insides to pudding.
ОтветитьSo, these may be decent in the carbine, oh, and you just said that. Algorithm
ОтветитьHere he goes agaiiiin!!!! You know what time it is
ОтветитьTest their jhp
ОтветитьDo these companies not bother to even begin to test their products? Unreal!
KnifeMaker
Is it me or do the wound channels look just as big or bigger than some of the top performing hollow points, while still getting maximum penetration with these??
ОтветитьMag tech is junk jams in cz sp01 and my cz p10c
ОтветитьI have a few boxes of Magtech 180 gr 40 but they are traditional hollow points. Haven't tested them but not many "bad" rounds in 40. Use alot of fmjs in 9mm, for training. Have had zero issues with their ammo in many years. None of which I would carry however, there are too many much better rounds.
ОтветитьAny company that sells 22 buy the jar makes me feels like their product may not be the best
ОтветитьThey used to have a hollow point that was very close to gold dot
ОтветитьBonded 1st defence 124gr very close to gold dot
ОтветитьAlways enjoy your content.
I would like to see some different types of ammo out of a S&W FPC. This ammo included in that test.
This is the old Federal defensive round from the late 1980s that Massad Ayoob raved about. My Kimber ProCarry loves this stuff. Best thing? It's back in production!
ОтветитьHave u ever tested magtech 115 Jhp?
ОтветитьI'm guessing it's going to perform like yet another FMJ alternative (same as FMJ but with weird point of impact issues due to weird weights and velocities, a bit more turbulence in the cavity but not significant if we're being realistic)
ОтветитьYou should try magtech 9mm +p+ jhp. I’ve been thinking about getting some.
ОтветитьMagtech is supposed to match carry ammo for 9mm.
I avoid it for competitive shooting but I have it for PCCs.
For competition the aluminum case ammo is king for over the counter options, soft shooting, widely available ( mostly Blazer and CCI ) and cheap.
