I don't like most play stills of blue there not fun for me to play against so I don't use them against others so not beg fan of Simic so I want Wyleyh more
ОтветитьI just purchased these 🤦♂️ but in fairness I did want to deconstruct them and make it my own.
ОтветитьI got Reap the Tides as my first commander deck 😆 I’ll be on the lookout for upgrades guides/videos I suppose
ОтветитьSo yesterday my fiance picked up the Aesi deck for me on a whim from our lgs. I just got done playing three matches with him, and wanted to check out what you had to say about it. I have to say I'm really surprised at the video, because this was the most fun I've had playing MTG in my entire life. Professor, you mentioned that the games were a lackluster experience, but I can only say that for me it's juuust right. The deck plays in a style I love, I love ramp, I love getting resources so I can play more and bigger things in basically any game I play, card games, video games, tabletop games, whatever. I felt like the deck was working to do exactly what I wanted instead of having to fight it to make it work.
And it's not the first Commander precon I've gotten. I've bought 3 in the past, and had decent fun with them, but this is definitely the most fun I've had. I'll admit, I'm a novice. You call most of the cards chaff but to me they seem pretty good at synergism and accomplishing what the deck wants to do. I don't care if a land enters tapped, it entered the battlefield under my control and triggered Landfall, what more do I want? More mana immediately available? Good thing my commander lets me play an extra land each turn so I can play a basic land in addition to it. Plus things like Cultivate.
And I don't say this to dispute what you're saying; I'm sure if I played some people with optimized decks, even if they were at my skill level, the deck wouldn't do so hot. I'm sure there's better cards. But, it still felt fun to me. I liked playing a land, drawing a card, playing that land I just drew, playing Urban Exploration to draw three cards and then play a third land and drawing another card, and then spending those three lands' mana to play Cultivate and oh my I just got 4 lands into play under my control, guess that's foul 4/4 beast tokens from one of my monsters with that as a Landfall ability!
So uh, yeah. Fun time. I hope I never develop enough skill or taste that this seems underwhelming.
Honestly in my opinion Aesi ended up being an amazing deck, at least once you spend a bit to upgrade the deck. It’s a very upgradable deck.
ОтветитьOk so ill ask here. My girl kinda wants to try magic. The problem im running into is the only 2 commander decks I have are Mind Seize and Vampiric Bloodlust. And if anybody is familiar with those 2 decks.... they wont match well. Jaleva will lose to Markov like 95% of the time at least with just the pre cons which is what im working with. Can anybody recommend a precon i can buy that will match up well with either markov or mind seize? I feel like mind seize is kinda just objectively bad unless you significantly upgrade its spells for jaleva to use and im not a collector so I dont have a ton of powerful old magic cards
ОтветитьSuper quick one year later the the boros wyleth deck is so easy to make stronger and becomes much better
ОтветитьI just bought the Asei deck off amazon for $20 and I am hoping to modify it into a proper land ramp/Sea creature deck.
ОтветитьNeeded this video Thanks so much
ОтветитьREADING EXPLAINS THE CARD THE CARD
Ответитьi feel like commander decks are perfect for beginners. i get these decks to have more of a selection of commanders when playing with friends and some can be fun to play.
ОтветитьWhenever the professor gives a product a C I get flashbacks to college
ОтветитьHey, I have both and can say reap the tides is a great deck. I put like 20 bucks into it and it's a deck that's unstoppable
Ответитьa year later and Reap The Tides offers better value than either of the zendikar decks with some great simic landfall cards. arm for battle is still trash.
ОтветитьWhat is commander
Ответить(-:
ОтветитьOk, real talk.
Aesi is genuinely one of the most busted precon commanders I have ever seen. My dad bought the precon, and after only a few budget upgrades for, like, $15-$25 (for example, cards that increase your max handsize, a board wipe or two, just some fine tuning), it is an insanely solid engine that won't stop basically as soon as you play Aesi. It is a ramp and card draw engine in one, and it is a looming threat every single game. I would highly reccomend buying it.
Professor, I greatly appreciate your videos and honestly they showed me to drop the standard format at my local games store. While I understand that is fun for some you showed me what commander as well as draft is and I thank you for showing me the best formats for casual and wonderful MTG gameplay to me personally that I'm happy to take to my local game store. I just want to thank you and while I don't think you will see this comment with all the thanks you likely get I just want to give you my thanks, from someone who is looking forward to a long term goal for commander play with my first commander deck as I grow into a better player and upgrade it along side me.
ОтветитьI just bought the real the tides as a first commander deck, less worried about value and more about playability as a new to commander person.
After a long old chat about how I’d like to play and experience they recommended the cheaper commander over the £40+ ones as a first time buy in. No regrets
reap the tides is still one of my favorite commander precons. If you swap a few cards out it can destroy your opponents and it's a lot of fun in my opinion. I've won a ton of games at Friday night magic with it xD
ОтветитьI love leviathans and other huge sea-things and you say I should not buy them because they suck. It's sad (
ОтветитьOut of the cards mentioned for reap the tides most have gone up a bit, those 6 cards are now worth $29.17 and the decks are being sold for $30-$37, there are some cards that also went up in price just a little that weren’t mentioned (swiftfoot boots went up to $4), I do really like the decklist for it as well, there are some pretty good cards in it, you can get it and put in about $20-$30 and make it a very nice deck as well
ОтветитьI had to upgrade mine a lot in order to beating my friends
ОтветитьMy Aesi deck is decent now... that I sank $1500 into it...
ОтветитьReap the tides works really well against the kaldheim commander and ikoria commander decks I own. I like this deck because it's extremely powerful in the late game. This weekend I test it against the new strixhaven commander decks
Ответитьif I may ad i purchased a reap the tides commander deck and it hasn't disappointed me at all, most games i play end with me absolutely stomping on the opponent ,but in games where i lose the game feels not just fun but fair, i cant speak for the other arm for battle but i can testify that for the value of the decks for the price you are paying u are getting a relatively balanced and fun deck
Of course there are better decks but they also come with higher price tags, for budget commander decks , at least reap the tides, its actually quite solid and fun, i think a lot of the criticism made in this video is a bit unwarranted, too much of a bias for higher end super decks, but for what they are and for the price they come they are extremely fun
Me trying to watch how to propery open the box..
Professor: proceeds to rip it open
😳
Dear Lord, why did they have to water it down. They could have gotten so much more people into the hobby.
ОтветитьCan I start playing magic the gathering with a commander pack ?
ОтветитьWish I'd watched this before buying!
ОтветитьNo, it is not worth buying anything from Wizards anymore..
ОтветитьI bought reap the tides as a base for my deck and swapped a bunch of cards for some better cards and it wins ( atleast in the Meta at my game store)
ОтветитьWyleth deck owner here, and my box is good, plus the life wheel is perfect for me. I don't like carrying dice for it, and so something that can fit in a deck box is great
ОтветитьJungle Basin is great to guarantee landfall though. Aesi loves bounce lands
ОтветитьI came from the future, the Kaldheim decks are way better !!
ОтветитьWhy is this commander so expensive? The deck is $20 but the commander is like $12. I just want that one card.
ОтветитьI got Reap the Tides and absolutely love it. If it had Azusa, Lost but Seeking in it, it would be even better. Also, he said that the deck was 20 dollars; actually, it's 22, since he missed the Swiftfoot Boots.
Ответить"just a couple of revised duel lands, nothing that special"
ОтветитьFill in the blank:
"I hope, very much, you do not SWALLOW whatever excuse the corporation is going to BLOW your way because, whatever it is, it's a complete LOAD OF _ "
I'm so glad I watched this video, I had skipped Ikoria set (wasn't interested in it), got the Zendikar Rising, skipped Legends and got the latest Khaldeim decks. I thought the Khaldeim ones were good, so I figured I should pick up the Legends ones, but after seeing the reprint value... Nope 👎 I can buy my own Voltron parts, and the Zendikar had enough landfall to make a good 4 color Omnath.
ОтветитьMe: Carefully opens the bottom of the box and slides out the whole inside without tearing apart the entire package.
Professor: RIP!!
card name: tatyova
the professor: tAToYOva
I just watched you on command zone and thought I'd buy two commander decks but came here 1st to see if it's worth it
ОтветитьHey Prof!
I believe that commander decks are meant to have a decent amount of lackluster cards for the player. By that I mean it leaves room for the player to understand what is wrong with the deck and how they can fix it.
I would love to see Wizards explore a product design space where instead of making more and more commander decks throughout the year, instead starting the year with typical commander precons, and then in place of the set precons later in the year they release upgrade packages for the precons. Maybe 20 bucks for 15-20 impactful reprints, a mix of land and non-land, that slot well into the precon archetypes. That seems like a really solid product to include much, much needed reprints, and guide players along not just playing games of commander, but improving their decks. I know it's a pie in the sky pipe dream, but I'm envisioning a world where we start with an interesting elf tribal deck, slowly upgrade it with better and better elf synergies and in the last upgrade in that line of products we get our craterhoof, green sun's zenith and maybe even allosaurus shepherd. A landfall deck every year would be the best way to make sure there's a continuous supply of the always in demand lands like shocks and fetches.
ОтветитьI paid $32 at Walmart
ОтветитьYou know I just realized earlier....there weren't hardly any duel spells in the set at all that's the biggest disappointment with the set given the fact that they put alot of duel commanders together and partners as it is could use that so much
ОтветитьWhat I find kind of ironic in this is that, while you make mention of the pre-con planeswalker decks, I actually surprisingly bought one, just for the giggles of it, and ended up wiping out pretty much everyone I personally know with it. But then, I don't really think that's a "fair" comparison, coming from me, because much like yourself, I've been playing pretty much since the game was created. I just hadn't touched Planeswalkers until about a year ago, because I kind of felt, at first, like the Planeswalker cards "took away some of the flavor" of the game, until I decided to break down and watch how they were used. But while these decks may not exactly be truly "play-ready" right off the bat, I would say that they are, at least, a pretty good way for some people to get into the game, when they're new.
The sad thing is that until I saw your video, I was going to do my own review of the Commander decks... you've actually halted me from likely making a big fool of myself, considering I still have yet to do anything MTG-based on my channel.
Still, though, thank you for the insight on it, Professor.
And "Not Much To Your Collection"?... Am I Missing Something, Here?
Can someone explain what's wrong with Simic sky swallower? I'm new to magic
