Rings of Power is shitty. I just found out after I made the time to watch it after so long. I discovered that the whole thing is more about "the message" than it is about storytelling. The pilot episode made it very, very clear right out of the gate. It was just in my face!!

Western produced media like films/music/games etc are all doomed to failure n the real problem is a lack of characters both in the producing n acting etc, our high character western society is eroding to the point where we're no longer producing humans with strong characters that people can love or hate, our lives are so artificial that people arent as "real" themselves, different to when life was less artificial, people used to be more free from n early age to develop their true characters in a more natural way, when people say "they dont make em like that anymore" its true imo.

Most of these studious don’t really care what the viewer thinks or says because their studio is really only one of their many sources of income… take the main one for instance (Disney) movies and marvel shows are really only a minute portion of what they make money off of they have multiple theme parks that millions of people a year flood into they also own multiple tv channels (including every channel that sports comes on or is talked about on) as well as tons of magazines and other stuff so if their movies flop or people don’t go too see them is no real biggie because they have all the other outlets too make money and push whatever agenda they want too push and millions of people will keep on paying those attention

Multiple directors, producers, actors, etc have admitted in interviews their dislike for the original content (The Witcher, Thor, Snow White, Star Wars, etc).

Well, I'm doing the best I can do about it, I'm ignoring the shite. Seriously, don't even download it. I only go to a few movies a year now, and I decided to insist on not seeing any which are sequels, reboots, soft reboots, or whatever else nostalgia bating. I could count on one hand the number of movies I've watched this year, each was it's own thing, and I enjoyed them all.

Nicely put. I do look at the actors trying to act in this environment, and I feel for them. I also feel for the people behind the cameras who are just doing their jobs with lighting, editing, and so on. And I feel for those writers who really do just want to tell a good story but now have to watch their backs lest they be branded as monsters by the new McCarthyist PC mobs or the ones who overreact on the other side.

I had no problem with Jason Momoa playing Aquaman, because it seems appropriate for the king of the sea to be played by a Pacific Islander, and because Momoa replicates the “Underwater Conan” look of the 90s. But it makes zero sense to have someone literally called Snow White be played by a nonwhite actress.

When I was a kid, I loved “Power Rangers,” which often had a diverse cast, and I never batted an eye at that. Now, I distrust almost every POC casting because I suspect it was done for diversity’s sake alone. In essence, Hollywood has accomplished the opposite of what it intends.

I like how the country who voted for Barrack Obama twice in a landslide victory is all of a sudden accused of being racist if they choose not to watch an obviously woke dumpster fire show like Rings of Power. 🤯

If the girl warrior sword hero was a well written and acted warrior sword hero, I wouldn't care that she's a girl. Same with the elf with dark skin, if he'd been a compelling elf with a cool story. To me the gender swapping or race swapping isn’t the problem. The problem is that the show runners think gender and race swapping is ALL they have to do: if they mix up the races and genders nobody will notice the bad writing, bad acting, and lame storytelling. Make 'em iridescent purple Martians with 11 different genders for all I care - if it's a good movie it's a good movie. If it sucks, it sucks.

The problem is that in most other professions, forcing diversity and inclusion doesn't matter. In movies, it creates a natural tendency for writers to create characters that they identify with, which are diverse and inclusive people doing stuff that the average movie watcher in the USA doesn't identify with. This may have created an odd environment where there may actually be no malicious intent except from the fans and the only true recourse is to hire back the writers and directors who can spin narratives that a dominant-white, patriarchal audience can flow with. It's all magic anyways, so it's not like white males were playing believable roles anyways. I dunno. I can't help but imagine old people having these same arguments about today's classics. I also don't like new movies all that much, but it's still sometimes better than nothing.

I completely avoided Rings of Power as I knew what they were going to do with it. It seems my prediction was spot on and I didn't miss anything. Glad I didn't waste my time because as a serious fan of Tolkien, seeing his works twisted to appease the political correct crowd would have just pissed me off.

I didn't mind the black dwarves and elves which probably had JRR Tolkien spinning in his coffin. But swordfight Galadriel came across as a fanatical solve every problem by stabbing it with a sword type of psychopath. She was nothing like the powerful sorceress Galadriel from the books and Peter Jackson's work. That alone alienated me

Personally, I think us fans should simply vote with our wallets - no complaining, no explanations, no response. Just ignore such movies, if you make the mistake of paying to watch it, demand your money back.

But above all - do not give any ammo to the creators and make NO response to their baiting, accusations, generalizations. Nothing. Break contact, go back to the roots. Back in the '60s, there was no direct comms between film production teams and the cinema goers... Let's just go back to that and yap about other things online... I've got four words for you: "A Christmas Story Christmas." It picks up on the story of the previous film four decades later, and shows Ralphie happily married, with two children, dreams of a writing career, and absolutely no emasculation or deconstruction of his character. The nostalgia is plentiful, including flashbacks to the original, but it's there to help drive the story (Ralphie comes back to his childhood house after his old man passes), while it still adds new things to the mix. Mom told me to think of it as a love letter to the original, which it is.
