Well, I dont think a certain Palpy had love on his list of things he cared for. If a person was decieved, thats good, but being loved would make him feel icky inside. Fear and loathing was nice tough. Granted, Palpy had a slightly different end-goal than your typical emperor, making him the lord of Terror.

Not to be a bummer about a joke, but I've actually known people like this. I had a boss who did a bunch of backstabbing and overtly 'politicized' firings. They planned and orchestrated their own birthday parties, and honestly believed that after all this the people left respected and honored them...up until they got not only fired by the people who supposedly respected and honored them, but those same people had the former boss escorted off the premises by the sheriff, then the people left had a HUGE party where they threw out EVRYTHING that boss had left behind.
