Culling The Past: The Story of Dongrang

Some corrections I want to make, firstly two people have already pointed it out already but the Hangul for Dongrang 동랑 in the name section was accidently switched out with Samjo's 삼조. Apologizes for this mistake I can see where I made the error in the script itself and used that text to carry it over into the actual video.

Now the more major thing, the pronunciation of Dongrang's name, I had for the longest time believed that it was Dongrang as written, though in the process of making the video I had looked the names pronunciation and got what I had for the this video. When check the games audio for confirmation on this I used Samjo as reference, specifically the Samjo announcers. The way he said Dongrang's name during some of his lines had me believe the pronunciation I had was correction, if a bit rough. I am seeing that I may have been wrong on this call on my part and I apologize for my error here. Pronunciation is one of my weaker areas and I am very unfamiliar with Korean as a language so I assumed I was wrong in my initial understanding. I hope this error does not spoil the whole video for you, but I understand if it does.

I think it should also be mentioned that the other abnormalities aside from Brazen Bull tie more into Dongbaek's association with the Technology Liberation Alliance, given how the EGO Equipment of Sloshing, Red Sheet, and Sunshower come from Fairy Gentleman, So That No One Will Cry, and Drifting Fox respectively, all of whom you fight in the Mirror Dungeon.

I geniunely can't believe he was robbed this hard can't believe he lost to Kroomer how is literally the best antagonist of LC ranked FOURTH out of six characters

My favorite part about Dongrang as a villain is how he never really acts like it. Even as a twist villain he never actually "snapped" even as he distorts he never fully lost his demeanor

We know of his villainous actions and personality, but even when he's "revealed" to be the villain he still acts like the good person he was in the past

The scene where the calf no longer recognize him is symbolic of how much he's changed as a person, but at least to me his outward personality from the flashbacks to how he is today never drastically changed, only his goals and desires

It's like he lost his sense of self in a way that even his personality no longer belongs to the old Dongrang, the good person he was had been slowly buried under his new self working at KCorp, the way people perceives and knows him has been hijacked by his ambition, his desires, his actions, and his gluttony

Dongrang's ego called 마름(marum) in korean
, it means farm watch, Dry, and thin
Fit greatly with man who have hungers that can't be filled

One additional point that I do wanna make is that Dongrang ratting his friends out could also have been partly because part of his thoughts and feelings died when his animal lover invention died in the Cincept Incinerator

I relate to Dongrang, the loss of ideal under crushing pressures and the realization that someone else has achieved it, locking it away under their own monopoly

Got a correction for you: that scene where he “returns home” and discovers the calf no longer recognizes him isn’t something that actually happened, it’s a scene that takes place in his head right before he gains his EGO. The whole speech he gives, with the “I’ll get a new secretary” (since Samjo just took the swan dive) and the observation notes confirm this. “(…)Doing so, he must have faced the yellow calf that had been weighing his heart down in his mind...and killed it.” It’s Dongrang realizing how much he’s changed into a monster, and resigning himself into fully becoming the man he knows he is.

part of me was expecting an after credits scene teasing an ahab vid, cuz these are so sick every time you put these character studies out. i'm so glad the old jojotuber i watched now does project moon stuff.

I’ve always loved Dongrang, I always felt so pitiful for him- His eyes conveyed this kind of sadness and misery he tried to keep hidden

Dongrang is probably one of the most common type of human in the city or in our world in general.

Imagine yourself in his shoes, a person with a normal hobby in which one can find satisfaction only to find a deeper and more ambitious way of using that hobby.

However, just as much as it was a hobby. The more grandeur it could be, the more attachment you put into it.

And with it comes severe consequences once that is taken away from those who once had it.

Creativity is a gift as well as a curse, most people often think that those given by it are truly people beyond their own capacity but they tend to forget that those gifted also loses something in return for gaining it.
