Hello and welcome back to Morning Mindset. I am your host Paul Markel, and I am here to share, hopefully, some positive and productive thoughts with you to help you have a positive and productive life. Our world is so filled with negativity and bad news and scare tactics and all that. We're going to take a little bit of time each day to focus on the positive and how to be creative and productive.

-

Today, we're going to talk about Take One and Take Two. You say “Um, okay that sounds like something you do on TV or with radio or recording or what have you”, the answer is you are correct. I started doing television, about eight years ago, I guess yeah buddy eight years ago or so I started recording TV, and getting in front of a camera, and what I found we're pre-recording our television episodes, was that you almost always invariably do a take two, and sometimes it takes three.

-

Now many people think if you hear this, “Well, that's because you screwed up, right? Or you screwed up and went ‘alright, that's no good. Let's do take two’ and then you screw up and you do a take three and sometimes you do a take four or five or six.” You go over, and you pound your head against the wall, but every once in a while, you do a take two just as, what they call, a safety. For instance, I was working with an editor and a producer and a director and there I do take one.

-

I get all the way from beginning to end flawlessly right with no flub ups with no mistakes. No problems, or what have you get to the end cut take one and then the director would say “Alright, let's do another one just for safety.” You say well just for safety. Yeah, just in case. Just in case, let's make sure that we do a take two.

-

Now I absolutely hate to do something over again, I hate to repeat myself. I hate to do work that I've already done. You guys know that you should know that by now. If you're listening to me, I really despise having to do something over again, when I just did it. Hate to have to repeat my work or redo my work.

-

I don't like to do that, I feel like it's a waste of time. However, and this is you know, it's like the but, however sometimes take two is better. Sometimes it's better the second time around, believe it or not. Yes indeed. You say “But Paul, I don't do radio, I don't do television, I don't record, I'm not a musician. So none of this applies to me.”

-

Actually, it does. There may be times in your life. When you decide that you are going to launch into a career field, you're going to make a change. You get a new job or you're going to do a new career field or going to try something different. something new and you find out that it's just not working out as well as you thought it was going to.

-

You anticipated great things, you anticipated great success. You thought that everything was going to be wine and roses and you're starting to feel frustrated and you realize, this is not exactly what I thought it was going to be, or I'm not achieving I'm not moving forward as fast as I anticipated. That's okay. Sometimes you need to just step back and do a take two.

-

Sometimes if you go away from that project and you come back later take two is even better when I was a young man. I was a young man, actually, I was 18-19 years old when I discovered an executive protection bodyguard school in the United States of America. It was in Colorado, in Aspen and I read all the Articles and I read all the pamphlets and the brochures and the and the promotional material and I studied and so forth and I was like I'm going to do this.

-

I thought this is what I'm going to do and that was motivated. I was highly motivated, I scrimped and saved and I paid the money and I went to the school and I took the training and I graduated. I did well, and I got my certificate and all that but I realized after not so very long that I was way too young. No one was going to hire a 20-year-old man to be an executive protection agent. They weren't going to hire me to do bodyguard work.

-

It didn't matter whether I went to the school and got this certificate and had the training and the motivation and the drive, it wasn't going to happen. So I put...
