once the ball is below the surface of the green in the cup the whole is over and pretty much what ever happens is good. You can't incur penalties at that point

Just played a tournament where someone hit a shot way off the back of the green, hit a power line to slow it down and still went OB. Rules of golf say that he must redo the shot, so he does not have to take a penalty shot. He proceeds to stick it to 3 feet and make the putt, ends up finishing second.
