Ive absolutely adored this movie ever since i was a little kid

Asterix and Obelix is the BEST!!!

When I was around 9 my parents went away for a weekend and my grandmother looked after me. I can’t remember why but my younger brothers were 4 and 5 respectively

She asked what I wanted to do and I said I wanted “dominoes pizza and blockbuster”, she made me go to centre point pizza and network video. Maybe to teach me to try something new

I hired this on VHS cos she got me into the comics. We got a “jumbo pizza”. I still get that pizza and I still still love asterix.

I love Asterix, I have read all of the books (even the newest 2023 edition) and this movie is a master piece! As a Brit, I love it and will continue too. I disagree with the people who want to change some of the wording and pictures in a few of the books, they are fine as they are, and even if they do I have a complete original collection.

Caesar and the pirate lookout were voiced by the same guy, Gordon Heath.

His partner, Lee Payant, was the voice director of Asterix the Gaul and Asterix and Cleopatra. He also voiced Asterix and numerous characters in both films.

I KNEW IT, Tea is the solution to war. Like I said in a video about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. They should all go to an Arab tea party, because King David just doesn't make a cup of tea, HeBrews it, after that they can all be friend. Someone replied to me saying tea is the answer to everything, I guess he was right after all!!!!

Is Obelix supposed to be Autistic? I like how accurate the British map is. This film has good humour in it. I like it how each character is easily identifiable and has a distinct personality, that isn't easy to do. You have the bossy Roman soldiers, Asterix the feisty one, that pessimistic tired but high ranking General, the zany black pirate, the greedy pirate boss who is obviously in charge of his men, Getafix the wise but good humoured, each character is so different from each other! There is some real skill in making these films so good.

This is an absolutely brilliant and hugely underrated cartoon. Great voices and the expressions and sound effects are terrific. It captures the humour of the source material amazingly well. All of the little characters and recurring jokes are on point. Its a masterpiece and my second all time favourite, slightly behind the 12 tasks which is perfect.

My dad read all of the comic books in his youth and he introduced me to the swedish dubbed versions of these movies when I was a small kid, I watched them probably a hundred times.
I'm 35 now and had forgotten what a big part of my childhood they were but recently watched them again and was surprised how emotional I got, they hit even harder because I understand the historical context better plus all the jokes that passed way above my head as a 4-6 year old.
If I ever have kids of my own these are some of the movies im going to introduce to them, amazing pieces of culture.
