Great analysis, thanks! On top of everything mentioned for Dallas, you forgot about Quentin Grimes.
ОтветитьI get that Klay took the most shots coming off a screen last year and the Mavs being league bottom in that category. But, what's the point of setting an off-ball screen for Klay? It's to get him an open shot. Guess what you are gonna get when you are playing alongside Luka and Kyrie... OPEN SHOTS! I can see how that stat can be misleading people to believe that Klay and the Mavs won't match well but they are missing the point. As long as the shot opportunity is optimal (and they will be because of Luka and Kyrie), Klay will be more effective than he was in the past 2 years on the Warriors.
ОтветитьKlay only made 29% of threes in the 4th. When it mattered he cant make them any more
ОтветитьTwo questions:
If a team runs a 5 out offense with multiple players constantly moving each possession, does that tire players out more than a 4 out offense?
How successful would a team like milwaukee be running 5 out with Brook Lopez on the floor?
They don't run more action because the shot clock is half gone when Luka is done dribbling the air out the ball
ОтветитьSo you are telling me that Coaches scheme theyre offense to the strengths of its players?? Im shook. 5 out was not possible with previous rosters
ОтветитьMavs loss in the Finals - Oversimplification; Dude's just did not hit wide OPEN 3's and it was game over for us!! Klay is going to get the Luka bump....and the Luka bump is REAL!!
ОтветитьKlay is washed… I don’t get all that $ he can’t move anymore, he can’t defend , he cant shoot… he is old and injured..:other than that he is great

ОтветитьThe Zach Lavine contract is so bad that I heard the Bulls are even ready to attach a first round pick to him just to get off it. I can understand why Lacob would not want to get on that contract; he is somewhat injury prone and once they get him, they are a tax team and would be stuck with the hot potato until 2027. That or they would also become desperate enough to attach 1st round picks to get off his contract. I think he may simply be playing hardball with Mike Dunleavy, saying "there are no roster moves that can make us a championship contender, so why should I shell out more money to the rest of the league?".
Plus, for all we know, Steph and Draymond might have been against getting Lavine. ESPN reported that a PG trade was fine by them, so maybe the lack of reporting implies that they would not have liked a trade for Zach Lavine.
Mailbag:
Hey Jayson,
As a depressed warriors fan who also loves Dame and Giannis and wants to see them win if Steph can't, I have a Warriors Bucks trade that I think would be perfect for both teams. What if the Warriors offered Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, and Moses Moody for Brook Lopez, Malik Beasley, and Marjon Beauchamp? Of course I'd love if they could manage to get Middleton and Brook in the deal (the salaries work) but I'm trying to be realistic. It might not sound like offering very much in a vacuum, but I think Wiggs would be a perfect fit in Milwaukee. He brings the kind of real two way wing athleticism and quickness you've been talking about that Milwaukee desperately needs, and I think Milwaukee could view loosing some rim protection (Brook's shooting felt redundant alongside Dame, Giannis and Middleton) as worth it for the improvement in perimeter defense to handle all the shifty star scoring guards out West. Plus Wiggs has always done his best work as a scorer when he's the 3rd or 4th option. He could easily be the 5th here. Moody just adds another super solid young 2 way wing to bring energy off the bench that could help incentivize Milwaukee. With this trade the Bucks could throw out a small ball lineup of Dame, Middleton, Wiggs, Portis, and Giannis at the 5, with a bigger option of Looney as an excellent rebounder and screener for Dame off the bench. Meanwhile for Golden State, they get a dominant backline of Draymond as the low man and Brook as the rim protector who can shoot as well. With Klay gone they're going to want to add off ball shooting and Beasley was great last year so he'd be a nice pickup. This trade also allows the Warriors to hold onto Kuminga as a more valuable and attractive trade piece (hopefully) around the league than Wiggins that can be used to go get the 2nd shot creator/star they need. Love to hear your thoughts on this deal, and keep up the great work I've learned a ton from watching your show
Mailbag: what source do you get your advanced analytics metrics from? just curious, I am always looking for the best site and easiest to access.
ОтветитьMavs turning DJJ, THJ and Green into Klay and Naji (I expect both to shoot above 40% in open threes AND Mavs are saving money in the process). That’s a huge win in by book.
ОтветитьWe aren't the Warriors or Celtics I like the way we play and Klay will get plenty of shooting opportunities without completely changing our offense.
ОтветитьOne of my pet peeves is amateur analysts using hindsight to sound clever 😂
I like your analysis but I think you seriously overrated the impact of the Celtics’ defensive scheme…not sure if you watched the Mavs in their first 3 series but they saw every defensive coverage and pulled them apart, including everything the Cs threw at then…the difference was that Dallas’ role players didn’t hit their open shots in the Finals so Boston didn’t get punished for their gambles…how do I know this is true? Did you watch game 4? They finally hit some shots and they blew the doors off the very same defence you’re talking about
So while I don’t disagree with a lot of what you said about the options on offence that Dallas’ new personnel provides, don’t underestimate the impact that having shooters who are ready and able to perform on the biggest stage will have on Kidd’s offence
Otherwise, great content 👍
If DLive improves his post-up game, or starts to shoot 3s, this Dallas team would be a completely different beast. They used him as traditional center in the playoffs, but he is a former guard and can be much more.
ОтветитьJason hates the mavericks so much man its has become exhausting at this point. It was the same last season and it will be the same this season.
ОтветитьThis the episode that let me know u have no idea about basketball..u just know percentages, and what u think makes sense numbers wise.. ima still listen tho cuz ur stats are good.
ОтветитьLuka will lead the NBA in assists next season with Klay
ОтветитьYour basketball IQ is top tier
ОтветитьAs a C's fan, am I wrong to already be looking forward to 1) 80s-redux battle royales with the Knicks and Sixers and 2) facing the new "us," OKC, in the Finals? Frankly, kinda disappointed Denver keeps siphoning off talent.
ОтветитьAnd, Jason, you didn't mention the 2nd apron repeater penalties--HUGE.
ОтветитьWhile describing the Clippers, therein lies one of the underrated advantages the Celtics have over the Knicks, Sixers and Heat, and this former Clippers squad: almost certain health. Yes, that half season for the Clipper Ship was impressive. And their potential, always, was "IF they can stay healthy." The Kawhi-PG Clips, from the day they were assembled, were an "if" team. Same with the KD-Kyrie Nets. Same for the Sixers with Embiid. The Heat with Jimmy (although they can have him healthy and it won't matter. Don't tell Heat fans--they're too busy talking smack about all those rings Jimmy won). The Knicks are too early to tell--but let them have another playoffs beset by injury, and...they be on their way to being another "if" team. Sure, health is a roll of the dice for EVERYONE, the C's included. But there is also track record and probability. Anyone want to wager the HEALTH of their team vs. the C's? Not many, I'll guess. Meanwhile, except for Porzingis (who, frankly, is barely more injury-prone than the overratedly-tough, dearly-departed Marcus Smart), the C's top 8 are basically an automatic (allowing Al his days off on back-to-backs). It's boring, but it matters. A lot.
ОтветитьAhhh this reminds me how much I enjoy hearing Jason talk ball when he’s not talking about LeBron.
ОтветитьI hope the Mavs don’t start playing that 5 out garbage that you’re glazing. That utter garbage that the Celtics play is terrible to watch, truly boring ass basketball.
ОтветитьThis entire free agency in general has been bad and not made any sense. Once I saw quickley get that deal I said oh yea this off season fina be some bs.
ОтветитьWTF WHAT THIS GOTTA DO WITH KLAY
U GET ON HERE TO BASH THE MAVS.....
THE MAVS ARE FINE EXCEPT VS BOSTON....GEEZE
THE WAY U SPEAK ON THE MAVS SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE MAVS MISSED THE ENTIRE PLAYOFFS OR NOT THE WCF CHAMPS
ОтветитьYou’re right, I won’t overthink it. They WONT BE HEALTHY. Boston in 5
ОтветитьThe national media (ESPN) seems to think Klay is replacing DJJ. They seem completely oblivious to the Naji Marshall signing as the pivot from DJJ.
ОтветитьPlease quit bringing up Zach Lavine. Jason I’ve learned a lot from you so here is a small amount of advice. No trade is better than a bad trade. Zach wouldn’t have been a real solution and we would have been in a worse position future wise.
ОтветитьI have to believe Kidd and Luka will take full advantage of what Klay can bring. He will get more open threes than Jason is suggesting. If PJ can be more consistent, he might not necessarily be left alone next year.
ОтветитьKlay top 5 3pt shooter of all time, yoi hated going to a team with LD who can give him wide open shots. How do i take you serious?
ОтветитьLuka going to power forward. Klay kyrie backcourt.
ОтветитьI think Philly is gonna regret the last two years of that George signing…
ОтветитьDallas on paper will be a good team but they will still be a bad perimeter defensive team. In fact they lost their best point of attack defender
Ответить76ers, mavs, knicks dont scare us. But i love chris paul helping wemby develop he going be scary not this year but the season this one if they structure their roster around him
ОтветитьU forgot about grimes!
Ответитьkinda think people sleeping on LAC roster. all it takes is one good kawhi season. That roster is versatile, young, athletic, defense oriented. James Harden was a better player than PG last season, Idk if championship level, but this KL2 If he’s healthy at the right time, buckle up.
ОтветитьFrom a bucks fan mavs did great by signing him
ОтветитьLuka is gonna average 12-13 assists next season and at least Embiid will have some company in the hospital now
ОтветитьDOES EVERYONE SAYING KLAY IS WASHED REALIZE HE WAS AN NBA CHAMPION TWO SUMMERS AGO AFTER COMING BACK FROM TWO GNARLY INJURIES?! Give the man a break, he made the second most total catch and shoot 3s in the league this season. Sucks that he’s getting scapegoated and crucified for a train wreck Warriors season in which Draymond was suspended for 17+ games all while Klay was expected to be their second best scorer every night because the front office wanted to hold on to draft capital and completely fumble/mismanage contracts. Glad he’s coming to a city that will love and appreciate his veteran talent and generational shooting skills - go Mavs!!!
ОтветитьMavs had an average score of 93.5 in the 4 games they lost. Their season average was 117.85
ОтветитьThe mavericks offense doesn’t work against elite offenses but it destroyed one of the best defenses of all time. Also Dallas was a bad matchup for the Timberwolves but the Celtics weren’t a bad matchup for Dallas offensively the mavs actually just are bad their offense doesn’t work
Ответить
