Pelargopsis capensis
All kingfishers have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species have bright plumage with only small differences between the sexes. Most species are tropical in distribution, and a slight majority are found only in forests.
The stork-billed kingfisher, is a tree kingfisher which is widely but sparsely distributed in the tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India to Indonesia. This kingfisher is resident throughout its range. It is a very large kingfisher, measuring 35 cm in length.

This species hunts frogs, crabs, rodents and young birds; but they are predominantly fish-eaters.
Like other kingfishers, it is able to hover above the water while searching for fish.
Their heavy body weight gives them enough power to swoop down fast on a fish thatt is close to the water surface.
NESTING / BREEDING
Stork-billed Kingfisher digs its nest in a river bank, decaying tree, or a tree termite nest.
A clutch of two to five round white eggs is typical.
