I'm a surgical tech and yes, a D & C is NOT an abortion. Just clearing contents out of a woman's uterus. Usually remains of an already deceased baby/miscarriage. And sometimes, like you said, it has nothing to do with pregnancies; it could be anything that just needs to be removed that could be harmful to the woman. But it has NOTHING to do with voluntarily killing your healthy baby in the womb, NOTHING. These people are wicked liars. Just disgusting.

Actually, I can not think of any mainstream and serious pro-choice advocate that is for '[elective] abortion at any stage' like so many conservatives claim.

I had a missed miscarriage at 7 weeks, finding out at 11 weeks. I took misoprostol to expel everything. I also hemorrhaged a week later. Medically speaking, all miscarriages are abortions, but not all abortions are miscarriages, it’s not fair to apply the social definition of abortion, an elective procedure, onto someone who suffered the loss of a wanted baby. I am very glad that Jessa was afforded the opportunity to have a D&C. There have been women who were not since Roe versus Wade was overturned. The poor were woman in Texas almost died from Sepsis. The pregnancy was not viable. There was no amniotic fluid. I wish Jessa had spoken about this. She is pro life as am I; however, there must be changes made so that all women are afforded the opportunity to obtain a life saving procedure without doctors being fearful of being convicted of a felony.

I think my blood may actually be boiling. I had a miscarriage. My baby died at 6w. I knew something was horribly wrong. At 8 weeks my sonogram confirmed that my baby died. I was sent home to allow things to happen naturally. Since it was an early miscarriage, I did not need a d&c to clean my uterus. Medicine successfully finished. I was devastated and heartbroken. My husband I I wanted that baby. It was also physically painful. I have always been pro life. I cannot express how incredibly insulting it would be to be accused of aborting a child you desperately wanted but unfortunately miscarried. I was 10 weeks and had the same thing happen ! I even got them to fo another scan a few days before the procedure to check again ! As I felt the same. And when I woke I was devastated and felt the emptiness smd whollow and loss afterwards. I think being accused that's an abortion is such an awful thing

Having gone through 4 pregnancies, 2 of which were miscarriages, one of which ended in a D&C and serious haemorrhage, I appreciate that doctors are qualified to perform D&Cs and save women's lives. Even if I would never have an elective abortion myself, I do believe in other women's CHOICE to make the best decisions for their health, given their circumstances.
The hypocrisy comes from advocating for pro-life and then getting the choice for a life-saving D&C. If you think of China's one child policy, Jessa should actually consider herself lucky that she lives in a free country where there is choice to have more than 1 child. Imagine a law requiring her to have 3 abortions after her first kid?! The fact that for now a D&C is allowed for miscarriage treatment and to save a woman's life could be easily reversed. Pro-life advocates (who were lucky enough to have healthy uncomplicated pregnancies) could easily also promote no D&C being thought in medical school. Of course, those benefitting from life-saving D&Cs conveniently acknowledge their importance and find it so obvious a D&C is different than the bad types of abortion.
So both you and Jessa are actually contradicting yourselves. You do appreciate having lots of choice around your reproductive rights, while wanting to restrict other people's choices who are not as priviledged.
