I have some red cherry shrimp in a tank with no heater ATM, doing great. But I want to add a heater to go slightly higher so I can add the community fish (112L). What's the best way to do it if I don't have a spare tank for them. Can I do it slowly over a week for example?

But when you have a tropical tank? You do need a filter….just not sure what kind of heaters are safe for the shrimp as the filters ( I did change my regular filter to a sponge one .

So I have a small fish tank which I plan on having a few shrimp in, I'm from Ireland so its similar to the UK. My room has a range of about 14-21celcius, in the summer it's around 17-23. Would the water in the tank be warm enough? I ask this because I don't know if the temp in a tank is the same as in the room

Glad to see this! I have my RCS colony in a 10 gallon with the Aquarium Co-Op heater, which was a huge upgrade from my heater which just died. My shrimp were kept at 78 bc they lived with my betta. When he passed last month, I gradually lowered the temp to 73. Everyone is still eating and breeding. Seems a good balance for the RCS, Amanos, mystery snails, and Nerite snails. I considered not heating, but the room temp fluctuates wildly on the west side of the house

This was definitely one of the things I was most concerned about before I got my first shrimp last year. I don't heat any of my tanks (our house is kept at 74-75 through winter and around 76-78 in summer - yay, southern Arizona!). I don't keep fish that require warmer than my tanks stay throughout the year, and I didn't want to try shrimp if they would suffer for the "low" temperature. I was assured they'd do fine, and they have. They breed very well in all of my tanks. I LOVE watching them, so I was so glad to be able to add them.
