Hi Carlo - I know you dig using Crate Connect - is this also how you find new music? Do you use any websites or sources to be at the pulse of new music? Or is that really half the fun/half the battle; finding new and hidden gems online is kind of the new version of crate digging? (Give me some rabbits holes on your resources, I need new music!)

I've just started my dj classes, I don't know if it's a thing everywhere but in my country it is, I've been doing good and often while playing the coach gives me a bunch of tracks and I feel like if i get to play the songs i know it can be so much better. I started doubting myself and i started thinking maybe that's not what djing is .. i thought it's more like a dj should be able to mix anything... but the track selection part of your video gave me the reassurance that yes I do indeed need to plan my sets before playing it for the crowd, thankyou so much Carlo I've been worrying about this since weeks !

Call me a dinosaur but whatever happened to a good old pair of 1210s a basic mixer and a DJ good enough to smash a dance with the tools in front of him/her. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the skill on show in your videos and I do enjoy listening to mixes using the methods on show but much chaos at a dance take a lot away from artists who produced the tracks. Saying all that I do own a use a controller regularly but there is still nothing better than doing a mix on 12010 mk2s.

My biggest mistake was using my connections and the offer of playing free and bringing lighting effects to get into good slots, it made me many enemies. Respect those who have been busting their butts to get to where they are, don't step on toes.

I can't stress more how much I like your videos! They have perfect editing, perfect script with enough jokes and the best information for any starter or experienced DJ! Keep them coming for ever! <3

As much as I appreciate these videos, I will give a bit of constructive criticism.

Your presentation each video comes off very manufactured and corporate puppet-y. As a viewer when a video opens up with THESE ARE THE 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW or THERE'S A HUGE PROBLEM WITH (name of product) it feels like they're trying too hard to pull views and comes off as disingenuous. I feel if you were more down to earth and personable with your viewers it would help you out tremendously.

Like I said, I do find your videos helpful and not trying to talk shit but just giving some feedback.

I agree with all your points.........Kinda lazy to use a controller though. A deaf person could mix on this stuff, its both amazing and soul less. Something rewarding and alive about just doing it by ear, not all mistakes are bad.

I would disagree to "prepare your music" statement here, simply because the concept of adaptation and creativity. A dj who improvises and creates the flow just right there on the dancefloor behind the decks will always have my greatest appreciation, even if there is a lot to improve. Also, I don`t think a good dj needs preparing auto / hot cues, etc-etc. This will be unnecessary if you have ears and you know the structure of your track. Thinking of this reminds me how much more magic was for me and my friends playing on cdj100s back in the days than now.

Excellent video. I can't add or disagree with any of this. Maybe one thing I would add is, don't present yourself to a high end club when you are not ready. Over promising your skillset, to then train wreck or put on a weak show will set you back for years. It's better to wait and study under someone for a year or so until you attempt larger party bars or clubs. Great video, and well put together.

maybe "lazy dj" is the wrong word. latest with "lazy DJs doing too much tricks and effects" the snake bites itself. well ofc we know what you mean... :D

My issue with the "dont rip from yt" thing is that i mix very niche music including bootleg remixes and music from rhythm games that don't have official releases or downloads so the only way to get ahold of that song is to rip it. I get the sound quality won't be the best but when ur so madly in love with a track or remix you wanna share it with the world, regardless of any crunchiness.
