Maybe I'm wrong, but this solo reaffirms something I think a lot: the musician doesn't always think exactly about playing in the changes. I believe that the interval content created is more important than whether the note will be part of the chord or not.
ОтветитьThat Metheny/Scofield is 1 of my favs!
ОтветитьSaw Sco with Lettuce at SF Jazz...very cool. Love me some Sco. He has an unmistakable voice.
ОтветитьJens, that E natural over the F7 in bar 7, couldn't that just as well be a mistake or are you 100% confident that Sco meant to play that?
ОтветитьIlluminating.
ОтветитьLove the Scofield analysis and information. Also loved your insight into the highly underrated and not as analysed Bill Frisell.
ОтветитьHorrible. 😖
Sorry...but it IS.
At least players like Metheny and McLaughlin incorporate "melody relief" in their atonal playing.
This is just horrible chromatic dissonance for the sake of it.
🙄😖
Ivory Tatoo from his early fusion days caught my ear....then Loud Jazz, I was hooked....
ОтветитьGreat analysis Jens. I'm glad you are here to help us.
ОтветитьThx jens. Great video
ОтветитьJens: “He plays with a lot of dynamics”
Instagram guitar players: “Is that a scale?”
A kind of late comment, but revisiting this video, it comes to mind that Scofield playing is really contrapuntal. I think this sense of deliberate texture, is why I love his playing.
Ответить⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ОтветитьIs that just a hair tie on the neck of your guitar, or are you using a specific product?
ОтветитьAwesome video! Just found you, make more videos! Very good tutorial! Just bought a JSM10 as well, but just getting up to scratch after 20 years not playing.
ОтветитьJohn Scofield has always been my favorite jazz guitarist since I was a youngling in the 80's.
ОтветитьJa Jens, hier tref jij zich het spijkertje volledig op het kopje man: pr8tich !!! Dank je.
ОтветитьBuenisimo!!!gracias jens usted es un master!!👏👏
ОтветитьYour English is beautiful, kind of like listening to jazz
ОтветитьI LOVE John Scofield from the very 1st time I heard him on Uberjam Album and his duet with Pat Metheny on that number was just superb, trying to figure out what he was doing until your detailed explaination..tqvm for sharing..
ОтветитьI've heard great things about scofield yet haven't checked it out
ОтветитьI think that just work with 2 voice leading and target notes is so challenger and funny
ОтветитьI love this album
ОтветитьSco talks to me, I can breathe while he pulls me down the rabbit hole
ОтветитьGreat video! Do you know Julian Lage?
ОтветитьLarry Coryell
Ответитьthe first time i heard him was the trade offs he did with joe henderson on miles ahead , i was blown away
ОтветитьScofield's Ray album is his best. Wonderful stuff all over it. The best guests.
ОтветитьAny chance you can do one on Gambale? Or is he too fusion and not enough jazz?
ОтветитьWow, this was a good video, despite the click-whoring thumbnail, which looked like a big warning sign basically saying "ad-ridden total bs ahead, stay clear"
Ответитьoh man just like mac laughlin , scofield but its just my opinion , what a strange sound ! and his scales choice ...very strange ? lol ! sorry !
ОтветитьI feel sad, because although i have tried a few times, I really don't get Scofield. I don't like the dirty sound, or the bending the note you land on a quarter tone. Probably a shame because I know so many people dig him, but I just don't "get" it. Thanks for trying.
ОтветитьYour analysis, note for note, I like more than Scofield's. His sound sounds like a drunk talking to me. I can't get past it. I wish I knew what J.S. knows. I want to like his playing. Through you I can appreciate his ideas. Thanks...
ОтветитьMy favourite contemporary guitar player.
ОтветитьSco has fun when he plays!
ОтветитьNice video Jens. Agree with your points and you've presented them well. Cheers
ОтветитьThanks for this!. Scofield is the man.
ОтветитьI liked Sco and the other fusion players
Zappa, Dimiola, Moore, Abercrombie, McLaughlin,
Jen's you are welcome in Minnesota where your wonderful Norske accent fits perfectly
ОтветитьI have done it todaz twice this lesson - I liked so much :-) .. waiting from a Mike Stern one :-)
Ответитьluv this man!
ОтветитьPat Metheny is on a different level to Scofield imo, but Scofield has his moments.
ОтветитьI LOVE SCOFIELD!
ОтветитьI've heard Scofield live several times. The last time I heard him he was playing country tunes with a piano player and I liked it not at all...
ОтветитьLike your Video. How about some Wayne Krantz. Like the solo from the 1990 Whippersnapper? Or perhaps the other great John, Abercrombie?
ОтветитьI am a Acoustic/Electric Bassist, new somewhat to Jazz Guitar gear. I play an Ibanez Artcore Hollowbody and have three questions. First I was told to play using flatwound strings. Is this common or preferred? Second is it better to use a Bass amp (Galien Kruger), or a guitar amp (Fender Front Man)? Lastly I want to be able to play melodically with a pick , but I also want to be able to comp and play chord/Melody Solo's. Should I use pick and fingers approach? Please let me know what you think! Thanks Bill
ОтветитьJens thanks for sharing this. One of the things that first attracted me to Sco when I was just starting to play guitar, playing blues primarily, was his angularity but within a blues vocabulary, which for me was something I was familiar at the time. I have listened to this record numerous times and would count it as one of my top 10 jazz guitar records. I should also mention that I have copped a lot of his angularity into my own playing.
ОтветитьWhy listen to Jens the imposter? There's a million Scofield videos online.
