as a DM should you come out and say he not being truthful? Wouldn't it be instead an indication of the NPC actions and details that suggest he may be lying......call me out if I'm wrong but isn't insight more of like seeing how a person is acting almost not so much reading minds? im farley new and someone in my group was upset the DM didnt just say he was lying " so was he lying or not" kind of got upset

I have been playing video game "RPGs" for years. I've always been annoyed by the obvious good guy answer and obvious antagonistic answer that they prescribe you. It makes me not care because I know I'm just checking boxes instead of actually interacting. BG3 has really made the whole thing feel more alive... And now I'm going to my first session at a game store this week! I'm excited as hell to try actual interactive role playing.

skill checks make no sense to me, whether it's plus 2 or 1 how do you know if a character completed the action or is lying?

I was part of a game during quarantine and we could only get together for 5 sessions but I sat there frozen. Not knowing how to jump in or do anything besides use my turn in a fight. This was super easy to understand and I am now very excited for my first game (a one shot) tonight!

Ok, so you roll D20 +2.... but what is the reference for giving that information? What if the result was 7, 11 or 15? What are you comparing your 19 to?

Dungeons and Dragons, amongst other board and tabletop games, should be essential in childhood development. Your forced to use reading, math, history(even if it's a made up world), imagination and strategy to succeed.

I'm just starting to dip my toes into DnD and I have so many questions. Is the DM just making the story up as they go, or do they prepare it in advanced? How does the DM know what the outcomes are from the dice? Do the players know what the objectives are of the story? How do they know that they are making any progress to the end goal? How much does the DM tell them about what is going on? I'm trying to learn but feel so lost, it's unlike the usual board games that I am use to.

The aped voices makes the game retarded. Computerized-play moves the game at a much faster pace and without aped voices that spoil the enjoyment.

they should lay down a way to make this work near the same on pc, like open software/ modding type shit with voiceovers and music n what not

stupid question, but how can you roll so often on getting out of the net that traped you? i'm a total beginner.

If my characters are in a net and there isn't a threat around I allow them to "take a 20" which means they can eventually get out of the net. Skips a bunch of unnecessary rolling.

So if a net falls on you, you enter combat with it, and have to "defeat" it in one "successful" hit?! A little girl could cut through a net with a dagger, yet Conan the barbarian couldn't do it with one strike. Such a weird system.

Some DM sometimes make an improvised and unscripted situations and narration. Sometimes, they forgot and narrated an inconsistent situations making the game harder. The DM can be a jerk and the game suddenly became DM versus all players.

I miss the good ol days of playing D&D advanced D&D and 3.0 edition and even 3.5 my favourite D&D to play is AD&D and 3.5 edition 4th edition favoured the bad guys once you ran out of encounter powers and daily power if you have used your daily normally saved for the big bad so 4th edition D&D favoured the bad guys when you only have at will powers left

This is crazy helpful! So glad I cam across this video. I've been wanting to play for years! I played a one-shot campaign years ago but never found another group after that. Here we are, just got invited to a campaign yesterday, it is going to be my first campaign and your videos are making it very easy to understand.
