i stopped riding any type of rides around 10 because you can just see the complete lack of care, if you are interested in amusement park crashes the US has had some that have really broken my heart

the circumstances between the rides are different but this reminds me of the luna park ghost ride incident back in 1979

The Smiler is the one ride I refuse to go on. Not out of fear but out of respect because if I lost my limbs on the smiler and I saw people then going onto the ride afterwards and being all like "Yay woo" then I would be angry beyond belief.

This just reminded me of the titanic. Everything leading up to the accident was so preventable! And it’s so annoying to know that they only ever increase safety measures like enough lifeboats to hold every person on board or in this case, making sure the ride is locked if the wind is too high or making sure there are security cameras everywhere so nothing is ever missed. It just goes to show that humans only ever care about money and they never learn first time around about making sure people’s safety comes first.

i almost fell out of the batman & robin ride at six flags in 2003-2004 because the bar on my seat didn't come all the way down, i had to like do inverted pull ups to keep myself in my seat every time it went upside down

The fact that they did not call 999 immediately....infuriating. It should have resulted in criminal negligence charges. If anyone had died - I would have hoped the staff would be charged with manslaughter at the minimum. This was entirely avoidable.

Brilliantly researched. There was so much I did not know about the history of this ride. It was great that you concluded with a recent update on how well the victims are doing all these years later.

Saw a program with I think Leah and Joe years ago, it was really big news round here and absolutely terrifying.
Have you seen the netflix documentary on the ghost train fire at Luna park (Australia) in 1979? It was crazy and sadly 7 people died

My opinion the fact that this case was so preventable and safety precautions weren't enforced more and were just past , leaving it to the greedy higher up to make the decision when all they are mainly focused on for profit (that the owners defiantly do not need) is disgusting and so unfortunate to the victims , glad they are getting on well in life .

Doesn't have the most loops, it has 0 loops actually. Also they didn't collide multiple times, the trains collided and instantly stuck together, so it wasn't impact after impact. Tragic accident that could've been prevented with a bit more care and communication

Once the passengers saw the car they would’ve screamed in fear in those few milliseconds before screaming in pain but screaming isn’t unusual on roller coasters. In those milliseconds before the crash people heard screams of pure terror and helplessness and the crash and animalistic screams of human suffering were the when they realised and then another crash and the screams keep going and more crashes and blood everywhere.
I’m so disappointed in all the mistakes made in such a preventable accident. A horrific experience for everyone in involved. My heart goes out to everyone and hope that, if nothing else, people have learnt from this.
It was absolutely life ruining and we can’t allow anything similar to happen again.

🖤 Love to all 🖤

Doesnt mean your gut feeling was WRONG, its like the butterfly effect where even a tiny action can have an immeasurable chain reaction... even to such a degree that since you were not in that specific spot at that exact moment the unfortunate series of events did not occur at all and the disastrous timeline was avoided, appearing, therefore, that nothing happened... because it didnt... because your discernment saved you from it!

This rollercoaster is one of my friends hyperfixations because apparently there’s lore and a story to go along with it (actually really interesting). I was a bit nervous when she said she went on the ride I was just thinking “were you hurt are you ok??” because I had heard this story before. She’s fine thank god, I can’t believe how terrified they must have been knowing they were going to crash.

This is exactly why I always get anxious to get on roller coasters, even with all the insane safety precautions that have to be put in place for them to operate. I’ll watch random people, even friends and family get on and off the ride without a hitch. But whenever I’m given the opportunity I’ll always have nagging thoughts that I’m gonna be thrown off, hit by some flying object or get into a crash. Even with how astronomically rare an event like that is, it always feels like it’s gonna happen to me in particular.

I could only imagine. These people were smiling during the ride then enjoying the views until. When they could finally see over the drop, there smiles were wiped and replaced with a horrible look of fear. All they could see was, what would become a horrible tragedy to happen to them.

It’s even more terrifying that the ride seemed to be operating correctly but humans overrode all safety protocols and ignored all safety instructions and common sense. It wasn’t like a crazy glitch that happened in an instant, it was a combined effort of ignorance and stupidity. And I love spunky Eleanor. 😂I’m here for the cussing.

I went on it a couple months ago. I had obviously heard of the awful crash that happened and I was really scared and I love roller coasters. To this day I will never get that haunting theme tune laugh out my head. Its truly terrifying. I always hated the smiler cat from Alice and wonder land as a kid (that's what it's based from). It gave me nightmares. The theme tune is haunting

The amount of signs that were ignored that day that could’ve prevented this is awful. I worked at an amusement park a few summers ago and it was nothing for a ride to have a small breakdown daily especially considering the amount of times it ran per day and how old the rides were. Except when it broke down the mechanics did a full check and then waited til a test ride was all the way through before leaving again. The fact that they didn’t see a test ride all the way through is what gets me the most because that’s the most important thing after an issue is fixed
Edit: 50 minutes for paramedics to arrive?? We had some on sight so they could be there in 5 minutes or less. Then if we needed more we could call while the riders at least had a few people there to help them
