The History of Robotech 1: Enter Harmony Gold & The Birth of Robotech

I wasn’t cool or rich enough. I hung my hat on StarWars and GIJoes. Of course never playing them as their characters that was for lame kids.

I had the coolest experience with Robotech because i encountered the novelisations before i knew what anime was. They were pretty good books for a 5th grader and I gobbled them up. Only finding out about the tv shows and movies and All Of Japanimation from that first introduction. The base story of the tiny city being warped to Pluto and having to survive inside this space hulk they barely understood and fight their way home to Earth was exactly the space opera i was looking for at the time as a little kid seeing ST the next generation. Robotech was special.

Robotech had so much potential...it was better than transformers but it was far too expensive for the toys

If they can sort out the rights and get their house in order Robotech could be a huge live action movie franchise.

Robotech was my first Anime and I'm really glad the combined the three into one because it made a great story into an epic story. Its multiple generations fighting to protect the earth instead of just one conflict.

We brazilians were lucky: we got BOTH versions of Macross (the Robotech version and the japanese version, translated as “Guerra das Galáxias”). The weirdest thing was to find out that the japanese version was dubbed FIRST, but postponed due to the licensing of Robotech in the country. Only when Robotech was cancelled in television the Macross dub was shown uncut.

Wait. So this guy told the US to create a non dumb down anime….that was already created by the Japanese? Brilliant ….really?

Great video, and makes total sense. LOVED Macross Saga but could never get into Masters. New Generation wasn't bad.
Waking up at 6am for a 30 minute cartoon at 10 years old....Priceless.

Still love Robotech to this day. The Macross Saga is my favorite of the three.

I was introduced to Robotech by watching it with my young children. Back then I never let them watch anything without supervision. I have been enjoying Anime ever since.

At least it wasn’t dubbed by 4kids.

I've owned the complete "Robotech" DVD collection (all 3 series) for over 30 years

As a young child i bought 2 tiny models from Revel. I got them at bernie Schumann at discount. Thos was before the show aired in the US. I also owned Jetfire and still have him.

Roy and Claudia. Rick, Minmei, and Lisa. Robotech was must see.

As I kid I loved Robotech more than transformers and Star Wars combined(even now)and I couldn’t find Robotech toys, but I did have Jetfire and I did have an imperial walker.

That was my Robotech play day 😅

My favorite personal achievement is that I wrote a Robotech comic for Antarctic Press back in the '90s, my only comic book work to date. I never tire of telling people that. 😁
