Bought the MT09 few years ago after test riding Triumph trident and Kawasaki Z900
That cross plane triple on yamaha feels alive and have one of the best sound I ever heard from a motorcycle(with a decent exhaust)
When riding in A mode with TCS off the bike feels like a bull on steroids but once changed to standard and TCS on the acceleration is very smooth and linear with a lot of torque in low RPM.

Guys, you should try it yourself. You'll know MT09 how nice it is. MT09 One thing no good is the seat not so comfortable when riding too long

ОтветитьOwn the gen 1 MT09 after having owned the gen 2 FZ1. One major difference and what had drawn me to the MT09 is the triple cilinder engine. Way more fun than the in-line 4 and also way more torque down low and in the midrange. You’d have to rev the Z900 up quite a bit to get that feeling. Going to spec the bike up with full Hyperpro shocks and springs, slam a nice can on it and do a flash. Maybe tilt the bars forward a bit. I reckon I’ll have a superb canyon carver that is fun, light, agile and powerful.

ОтветитьI have a 2018 Tracer 900 GT, so same engine and power as the MT 09. You say you like using your MT09 in sports mode but complain about the power delivery is not linear which I would agree with. However what you need to do is use B mode this gives a very linear power delivery which I think is much better, especially for the twisties ( I guess what you call canyon roads). The modes do not affect engine power just throttle response on these bike, so you still have same overall power, just delivered better. The Yamaha triple is a great engine, it can be a little vibey at times but I have done 500+ miles in a day on a number of occasions with no problem. Engine torque is great and you are right about the engine braking, it all makes for an easy and very fun bike to ride.

ОтветитьI am surprised to learn that MT09 is a 3 cylinder, i thought it to be crossplane 4 like R1. and it does look like an ADV. Z900 is what i can get in my locality and had a test drive as well. the power is immense, like i drive a 125cc 10hp scooter. to me z900 feels like a monster. you wont know when it will reach 100kph while on 125cc it does take 13-15 sec to be at 100.

ОтветитьTo do a comparison one must use current addition motorcycles. In this segment of motorcycles a generational change can be huge. The MT09 2021 and newer models are 90 percent new compared to older generations. The difference is massive in every dynamic area of use or operation. Any effort at a comparable value or functional ability involving a MT09 must use 2021 or later. Nice try but wrong bike.

ОтветитьI have to say, I’m so surprised by the amount of motorcyclist in these comments preferring the smooth power delivery of the Z900 over the aggressive delivery of the MT09. I feel like the primary reason of getting a street fighter is the preference of low end torque over smoother top end horse power, & “Master of Torque” 09 give you exactly that. If you want a smooth power delivery for carving canyons or hitting the track, a sport/ super sport bike makes much more sense. If you want something tame for around town or commuting, something like a parallel twin or one of Honda’s 650cc in-line fours sounds like a better option than a tamed 900cc in-line four. I do like the Z900, but I feel like the MT09 does a much better job at capturing what a street fighter really is.

ОтветитьZ900 owner here. It was my choice between the main direct competition: cb1000, mt09, suzuki gsx1000 and triumph triple. I'd only trade it for a z1000.
ОтветитьI own an FZ-09. I bought new in 2017. Love it.... Comfortable for longer rides but a hooligan when you want it to be. Nothing sounds better than the CP3 cross plane triple motor... I'm a Kawi guy at heart though also...I own a 2005 ZRX1200R that I bought new in '05 and it's a beast with the mods I put on it. Full titanium Akrapovic exhaust, K&N filter, Borg Warner Race clutch, 4 degree ignition advancer, Factory Pro Jet Kit, 3 teeth up in the rear sprocket, and many Dyno runs to dial it in... It 1/4 mile at 10.6 seconds on the stock swing arm...Naked bikes rule!!! I also owned a Kawaski ZX11 and a 1970 KZ1000A that I fully restored... Great video and channel.

Until yesterday I was thinking MT-09 wins vs everything, it kicks everything in the segment easily, then I saw someone commenting "compare to z900", I'm not kawa fan at ALL, Im honda/suki/yaha/bmw fan zone, but as I saw design I immediately decided to give it a chance and to google a review and here is your review =) So I will be getting z900 right after I sell my honda cb500&gixxxerK5 600,
Appreciate honest words altho Im sure it was not easy to beat own bike against direct competitor, shall we agree on this thought?: if they could have this CP3 engine on kawa or cb650 it would be such an excellent exp)
