I think what people forget is this: this is an IDOL competition, is not THE VOICE. So the best singer may not win, instead someone who got most public vote and support, likeability, stage presence may win.
Idols are artists who sells by garnering most fans. Those fans may not necessarily know music or vocal. This is why mostly male competitors with handsome face, young, wins the American Idols.
The criteria for idol is not looking for the best singer, but the best public reaction, votes, and money coming in.
