UConn wears you down physically and mentally. They always punch you in the mouth after half because you have to gear back up to their level and energy and teams are never ready to come back out and play.

The one and done game was Calipari's biggest mistake as a coach. The reason he didn't have the success everyone expected is not just because he isn't a big game coach, it's because every team needs leaders and experience. His team's sometimes had the former, but never the latter.

But I don't agree on the grad student thing. Yes NIL helps but we've only had NIL for a couple of years now. He should have had some Juniors/Seniors who rode bench and got better. Maybe a single experienced guard on a few of his teams would have won them 2 or 3 more championships... anyways Francesa is wrong about change. It will continue to change until the NCAA dissolves as we know it and professional leagues open up a ladder system like they have in soccer in Europe to prevent the big conferences some encroaching on their market.

Ive from CT and have been watching basketball since 1990. This Uconn team ranks up there in the top 10 of my lifetime for sure. In a tournament of the best teams they would have a chance to finish #1

Couldn’t agree more with Mike. Edey did nothing when Uconn went on their patented run, game over. Edey put in a lot of points on Karaban when 2 bigs were on bench.

Terrible game plan, agreed, to have those Purdue guards keep charging into the lane and getting their stuff wiped. Rather than spreading out and trying to hit threes...they did not even attempt to adjust at half. UConn was just too much. Edey did what he could and was doing well in the first half, but was stone tired and frustrated by mid second half...

I agree UConn is maybe the most dominant team we have seen relative to its competition...I mean the numbers are the numbers. That does not mean they are a better team than the Florida team that went back to back or that Kentucky team or Duke or UNLV teams from the 1990s. UNLV had 4 future pros on their team, and beat Duke by 30 in the final, that had 4 pros, and Duke came back next year and won the title. The talent disparity between those teams and this UConn team are extreme. College basketball has been watered down, and the best players are one and done. Even in 2006 and 2007 this was not so much in the college scene...and a team like Florida who started two guys 6-10 and 6-11 who later became NBA All Stars (Horford and Noah) and a backcourt (Corey Brewer and T Green) that were all SEC (Brewer once scored 50 points in an NBA game), would be too talented, IMO, for this UConn team. Even Noah avg'd as many blocks as Clingan did with Horford blocking just under 2 himself, and Noah blocked 6 against UCLA in the title game as a sophmore, and 4 against Ohio State as a junior, with Horford blocking many more. And Odom was 7-1. They played against other future NBA players in their NCAA tourney games, making for more parity. So I for one, being 60, remember those teams, remember the teams of the 1990s, etc. and the level of talent they were playing. What I find amazing for this team and Hurley is with the transfer portal, etc, they still find ways to regroup and repeat with authority. That is amazing.

I think Dan Hurley would be absolutely out of his mind to leave a dynasty he helped build like UConn for Kentucky. This tournament was over before it started because we knew going in that no other team had a shot against UConn. You don’t leave that kind of dominance and opportunity to three or even four peat behind.

Two key additional points:
- Edey touched the ball something like over 35 times in this game on offense and didn't have a single assist. He had 4 assist vs NC state in the final four. It really speaks to how UConn shut down the 3 point/outside game of Purdue.

- 2nd half, Hurley started running offensive sets where they forced Edey away from the post, allowing the more athletic and talented UConn guards to get into the paint and make layups/dunks, but also put UConn players in position to crash the board for offensive rebounds. UConn had 8 2nd chance points in the 2nd half.

UConn has won 6 championships in the last 25 years. Kentucky hasn't. Please explain how Kentucky (or any other school) is, on any level, a more desirable coaching job than UConn. Both schools are all-time great blue blood schools with multiple championships. If anything, it's a lateral move. And I wish people would stop saying UConn isn't as much of a blue blood because their dynasty doesn't go back as far. A blue blood is a blue blood. Titles are titles. Period end. Hurley said after the game that the school gives them whatever they need to succeed. Outside of money, what more could you want?

From what I've heard from Hurley, Kentucky doesn't fit his mold. Besides he's a big family man and he's said his wife would be against anymore moves. Hurley recruits not only athletes but their families, he wants athletes from families who are unselfish and work at improving themselves. Kentucky basically looks for high powered one and done athletes - not team players.
