My chickens tend to beeline it to wherever I actually DON’T want them to go when I cut them loose. 😂
ОтветитьI agree about the ethical treatment of animals. If people are not going to raise them responsibly and respectfully, they should not have them. Chicken prices have quadrupled this year. Looking forward to the Homesteader’s event next month.
ОтветитьBuyer beware
ОтветитьOMG thank you so much for telling us about the Homesteaders gathering!!! Its so close to me it will not be a problem getting to it this year. I AM SO EXCITED! I am a fellow creator so will be really happy to run into you and hope I meet others! It would be nice to meet Morgan too. Going to watch your pig raising video next. I would like to do summer pigs next year for harvest. Hey it sounds like you are close to me! I am in the Brattleboro area. Great video!
ОтветитьSpot on!
I just found out one of my local farmers, who I have been supporting for years, started driving down to Iowa to to buy grown out commodity pigs because it’s cheaper and easier.
Then the farmer doesn’t disclose that unless the customer asks!
Unbelievable!!
I ONLY want to support local farms and purchase non commodity meat.
I felt personally violated.
Thank you for posting this
Great PSA Jack.
Ethical homesteading/farming is not talked about enough.
I love your videos do not give up your numbers will go up , and I am sharing them so more people can watch
ОтветитьAll good things take time! Just keep at it, a day at a time, and you'll be surprised at how soon you achieve your goals.
Until the pasture is ready, you could cut grass and throw it into their yard, and that will make both of you happier. :) Well said about proper labeling and ethical animal husbandry.
I wouldn't call that a "rant" as much as I'd call it Educational. People NEED to know what they're buying and why it's priced differently than the grocery store. Most of them just don't care or don't think about it. YOU are one of the FEW that actually explain it in detail and make sense of it. Thank you for that.
ОтветитьYou shouldn't feel bad about your chicken run. No, it's not where you want it to be right now, but they are well fed, sheltered, cared for. You'll get it, I have no doubt. Rome wasn't built in a day. A lot of people, myself included, only able to meet the 4 sq ft yd per chicken in a run to sustain us only. The chickens don't get fresh grass like that every day. In winter barely at all, but they get fresh sprouts I grow, clover, herbs, grass cuttings, fermented food, etc. All we can do is best within our means. I agree with ethical standards. These production places, won't mention names, sicken me with treatment of animals. I know they're going to die, but corporate greed has set a bar so low that most see what they're doing as they're not as bad as type thing but still bad is bad. Sorry off my soap box. If i was near you, I would not hesitate to buy farm fresh eggs from you. You all are doing awesome!
ОтветитьGreat points💥
ОтветитьIntegrity… it’s a rare quality these days but I too suffer from it and tip my hat to you sir.
ОтветитьBased on where you are, I would say the buyer is from Mass. You are an honest farmer, some guys aren't.
ОтветитьSomething to be aware of for sure. There is that 1% of people not so ethical. One of the many reasons we have started with 5 layer hens. When we move to our 4 acre property, we plan on maybe getting a few hair sheep and definitely getting some meat birds.
ОтветитьYour farm has come a long ways and is really looking great!
Keep on tractoring!
Many people have no ethics, no conscience, and will say or do whatever to get what they want.
ОтветитьI respect the fact that everyone has their own way of raising their animals one thing I dislike is when someone shows you a image or video but then when you go and see the animals in person they look different when I raise my poultry I always update I never show live stock from back then
ОтветитьDon’t be embarrassed by it. It’s just what birds do. They’ll turn a spot into a mess in a day or two. Unless it’s a huge area. I’ve experimented with sizes of feeding enclosures and chickens and we average in about 15 or so chickens on a given day. And to keep a nice green lawn ish looking clean enclosure they need about a 50 yard by 50 yard square area. Once it gets any smaller than that you’ll see bald spots that turn into muddy nasty spots with the rain and the chickens end up filthy and ragged looking. I hate to say it but I think they are just kind of dirty animals. Which I guess in reality most animals are when contained. Anyways it’s nothing to be embarrassed about if you’re doing the best you can. It has rained so much here in the Appalachian this year that my chickens, along with my yard, driveway, garden and everything else is a sloppy mess. I have not seen this much rain in a summer in my 43 years. Carry on. I enjoy your content
ОтветитьYour message is a good one. Thank you for sharing. It is true hard work to do what you guys are doing with that lovely land and your animals.
ОтветитьI have been slowly learning the laws in my area and it's very weird, but I totally understand why they exist. For example in my city you can have chickens (in less populated areas) but you can't cull them yourself at all. You need to take them somewhere but it still blows my mind. Definitely an ethics and safety concern but still a bit odd
ОтветитьChickens eat everything- land rotation is best-
