The Problem With Pokemon Starters

Most of the names were wrong. Also, the types are what they are because it's easy for little kids to understand that fire burns grass, grass grows with water, and water extinguishes fire, but in a child's mind, people can't punch through metal, a piece of metal shouldn't be able to beat a mythical creature, and a tiny, cute thing stands no chance against a bodybuilder. Each new generation's core games have the responsibility of teaching new players that are just starting out. Also, the designs for the starters are usually pretty cool. Gen VI gave us a ninja bubble/tongue frog, a knight/paladin chestnut hedgehog, and a witch spirit fox. How are you not satisfied?

Dorkly is just "new bad old good". Pokemon (actually understandable), Zelda, even Mario bits have become "the new games suck!".

Almost every time.. In Both Orre region games, you got different options.

Coliseum gives you an Umbreon and Espeon. XD gives you an Eevee with 5 possible evolutions. But not many people had the gamecube games.

Fun fact: In Pokémon Black and White, the starters were originally going to be Psychic, Fighting and Dark type before that was scraped.

if they wanted to recapture the magic of gen 1, then maybe they could have gone and created a pokemon game for those fans who've been around since then. Pokemon Uranium tried to do it, but got shot down because it was a fan mod. Make something a bit more challenging and less hand-holdy for the adults. Doesn't have to be super mature or edgy or anything

I like Pikachu and all but…I like the “Pikachu clones” a bit more. Probably because they’re seen as pointless to so many people. Also, I see so much of Pikachu that it’s hard for me to appreciate it completely. Too much of a good thing…that’s how I see Pikachu. But again, it’s still cute and I do appreciate it to a degree for being the mascot of the franchise🙂

Meh, i think dvelopers know what they doing. They just work according to a stable scheme: a new Pokemon pull (usually balanced) + a modified pikachu (and why not?) + training for newbies about types of Pokemon and their mechanics (our favorite water-fire-grass)

I would actually love it if they made the starters of one generation fighting steel fairy
